Owner description: Walk or take the funicular tramway to the top of this hill for the best views of Athens

The funicular ride to the top of the mountain was fun! Go in the evening to see the ancient city all lit up. This was a memorable experience, and I would definitely go again when I return to Athens!!

Excellent views of the city but. If walking there a lot of stairs to climb just to get to the funicular

There is a funicular to the top (7 euros), but I prefer to climb the side (using good paths) to the top. its a fair climb and very hot in summer (as it Greece generally), but the views from the top are astounding - you get a 360 degree view of Athens as well as looking down on the acropolis in the distance. The path starts at the top of the Kolonaki neighbourhood.

There's a tiny church on top and a few restaurants to get a cool drink or a snack. Views are equally stunning for sunsets, but if you do this, then walk the road back as there is no lighting on the walking paths so they are only good for daytime ascent/descent.

Beautiful view over Athens. We ate in the cafe which we thought to be good value for money. We took the furnicular both ways, road was quite dark so happy we could take the train on the way back

We walked to the cable car from our hotel in city center. The RT ticket for the cable car is 7E each. While I would not want to hike all the way up there, I might have considered walking down as we had plenty of time to kill. Once up there, not very many crowds, you can walk through all the restaurants to see the views and not buy anything. Excellent views of the Acropolis and the city. When you have a few days in Athens there is not much to do and this is something to consider. The cable car runs every 1/2 hour.
