We walked a long way the climbed a lot of steps before getting on board the funicular. Up on top of the hill was very pleasant with a pretty church and restaurants and of course the view.

Breathtaking view with a restaurant & church in the most highest point overlooking the city with a 360 degree view. Incredible!
From the top of this hill, you have one of the best 360º panoramic views of Athens. It is not easy to get to the foot of the hill. Indications are non existent and it is a rather still climb though a maze of streets to get there. The incline leaves half hourly. It costs 7euros for RT.
At the top, the view is really fantastic. On one side, you can even see Piraeus and the Aegean Sea. There is a small Orthodox chapel on the top platform, but rather mediocre inside. On the other hand there are a few terraces with a café and a restaurant. On a fine day, it can be nice to sit there for a while and enjoy the view.
We walked up on a lovely June morning; we opted to walk up as we could not find the funicular entry, but we were so glad we did! Lovely walk with views at many points up the hill. 360 degree views from the top, all the way to Piraeus Port. The old church on the top was very pretty and there are a number of cafés where you can enjoy an ice cold frappe. The walk down is also great, including the stairways that lead you just to the side of Syntagma Square.
This is the highest point in the city and we took the furnicular which costed EUR 6 (two way) to reach there. At the hill-top there is also an 18th-century Church which was interesting. Watching the entire city at sunset was a nice way to start our stay in Athens.
