We spent a great couple of hours here on our recent trip to Athens. We had intended to walk up but the heat got the better of us and we took the funicular instead. This was quick but I was rather disappointed as I imagined you would get great views on the way up but the funicular is enclosed and it is merely a functional (and surprisingly hot) way of reaching the top. However the view once you get there is so worth it, it really is spectacular. The little church is absolutely beautiful and it's worth taking a little time to look at the paintings on the walls and ceilings.
We stopped for a coffee and drinks at the bar and were tempted by the honey dumplings which we hadn't seen anywhere else. They were so delicious! It was almost worth going there just for them!
We decided to walk down the hill and were glad we did. It's a lovely walk through the fragrant pine trees and you also get to window shop in the upmarket shopping area at the bottom.
