“The always looming Acropolis as seen from Mt. Lycabettus.”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

From Mt. Lycabettus you can appreciate how Athens building code limiting the height of all structures to 5 floors, focusing on never obstructing the view of the Acropolis. As Athens stretches out in all distances the lack of tall structures in a city this large is quite striking.

“A bit of a hike, but fantastic views await!”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

Even to get to the tram (7 Euros w/return), there are hilly streets and/or stairs to climb depending on your route. You could take a taxi, but that's no fun! There is also a trail that leads to the top just down from the tram station if you're more adventerous with time on your hands.

Once on top, a few more stairs and turns will take you to the very edge just past the St. George Church. The views are 360 degrees from various points on top. On a clear day you can see the islands to the South. The view from the top really gives you an appreciation for how large the city really is. The Acropolis is readily visible as well.

Also at the top is a restaurant with several seating areas. The food is actually quite good and the prices aren't too bad, considering where you are.

I would consider this a must-do while in Athens! We didn't get a chance to be up there at night, but I can only imagine how amazing that must be!

“Do not miss it!”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

Nice bizantine church at the top dedicated to St. George. The view is spectacular. Use the funicular, do not fall for the people outside the funicular trying to get you in a taxi, will not take you to the top and is a scam. The view is spectacular at the sun fall.
