Thw Academy building was designed by Theophil Hansen, the Danish architect, who has also designed a similar looking building, now seat of the Austrian Parliament. The building stands next to the Athens University buyilding and the National Library building. This trilogy is an illustrious jwel that reminds us the history of what Athens has been and still is. There are over-life sized statues of Athena and Apollon standing on two ionic pillars. For those of us who are hurt by the aesthetics of broken and effaced sculptures, that are usually seen in the Greek musea, this neoclassic creations remind us of the health and beauty of the original classic art, and fill us pleasure, jubilation and elevation of everything good in our hearts. If humanity can still create such beauty, there is hope for the future!

It faces Panepistimiou Avenue. It is one of the most exquisite neoclassical buildings in one of the most beautiful streets of Athens. It has a rich sculptural decoration. Most impressive are the statues of Apollo the guitar-player and the statue of Athina the defender. It is my favourite building in Panepistimiou avenue.
