A great collection of coins, and of the monetary history of Greece, but the highlight of this museum is its garden and the small cafe found there. Even if you don't get to visit the museum itself, you can certainly enjoy a small coffee or lunch break at its fantastic garden!

If you've read Irving Stone's biography of Heinrich Schliemann, the discoverer of Troy and archeologist of Mycenae, then visiting this house that he built in Athens is a must. It was closed for years undergoing renovation and the city has moved the Numismatic (coin) collection to the home. Whether or not you are interested in coins, this house is worth visiting. The frescoed ceilings are wonderfully restored, as are the mosaic floors. Unless you concentrate on the coins of Athenian antiquity, you can tour the two floors of the house and the gardens easily in an hour. It a five minute walk from Syntagma (Parliament) Square. The 3 Euro entry is worth the look back to the 19th century architecture.

The building is two storey with a very impressive decoration and interesting collection. There is a great cafe in the garden, a small green oasis in the center of Athens. The garden covers an area of 800 m2 ,according to the official siteof the museum, includes many species of Greek flora and adorned with replicas of ancient Greek statues. Worth a visit

This Museum is almost hidden, even if it is downtown. Nice architecture, the place used to be a megaron. The museum is an exhibit just by itself!
Nice collection, covers ancient history till nowadays.
Do not forget to drink a coffee at the museum's garden. Totally worth it!

The Numismatic Museum began its life as the private residence of Heinrich Schliemann and his family. Schliemann is probably best remembered for discovering what is commonly accepted as the site of ancient Troy. It is worth visiting just to view the architecture!!
