We had the privilege to hear the performance practice as we stood at the top and looked down. The acoustics were amazing to hear. It vibrated through in a gentle way. If you have the chance to hear music from with it will relax and revive you. It did for me. 🙏

There are so many amazing things to see around the Acropolis but this is one of the most impressive in my opinion. It dates back to the sixth century BC which is incredible in its own right!

It has been rebuilt and renovated over the years but still holds so much history. You can tell how important it is by the fact that it had a capacity of 17,000 seats over 64 tiers even though only about 20 are still in situ.

When you get higher up into the Acropolis and look down on it it looks even more incredible.

Some reviewers have confused the Theatre of Dionysus with the Herod Atticus Odeon. They are entirely different sites. Both are located on the slopes of the Acropolis, but the Herod Atticus Odeon is more complete and still hosts performances today, while the Theatre of Dionysus lower down the slope is a ruin. Access can be gained by following a path to your right before you reach the Acropolis payment booth, or via the entrance across the road from the New Acropolis Museum. Not many tourists were there the afternoon I visited and it seems to be a bit off the beaten track for most. It's possible to walk around it and climb the seats and sit and imagine the theatre in its ancient past.

The ancient Greeks really loved their theater based on the number of theaters and their ruins. You can get an aerial view of this theater from atop the Acropolis.

A unique experience. Worth buying vertical seating if going in a group so that you can rest your back.
