“Great rooftop restaurant!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013 via mobile

Hera hotel is lovely. The staff are very friendly and the hotel is clean and comfortable. The double room is very small, just two single beds together. The restaurant upstairs has fabulous views and food for reasonable prices.

I booked this property through Jetsetter and had an expectation that it would be nicer.
Pros:
- great breakfast with fruits, veggies, eggs, frittata, bacon, sausage and decent coffee.
- very close, two blocks from new Acropolis Museum and base of acropolis. So if seeing these is your primary goal this location is a nice home base.

Cons:
- room was not well maintained, wall paper peeling, need new paint.
- lower rooms face other apartment buildings that are not in great shape
- their hair dryer blew a fuse in the room!
- when I called to ask for an iron prior to our dinner reservation we were told they were both lent out to other rooms and that they could not get one for us. I was referred to the hostel across the street. Irons at the front desk is fairly common in Europe so learn from my mistake and ask for it upon check in if you need it.
- this area is extremely touristy. Like Disney world, sun hats, tevas, and fanny packs so the surrounding businesses and restaurants cater to this crowd for a more Authentic experience, ask locals or do more research on foodie sites etc.
- our bed was two twin beds pushed together with separate comforters. This is also somewhat common in Europe but previously when we check in to other hotels they put a thick pad over the two beds to combine them since we are a couple and this is usually fairly comfortable.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher room and hell, go ahead and ask for an upgrade. You will want it here.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

Its sad to hear that you were dissapointed by your stay. However, by reading your comments, I found that overall you liked the hotel, except from some details.

Regarding your comment on the room appearance, I am really sorry that the wallpaper was peeling and some parts were in need of maintenance. We have already restored and fixed all rooms. For the hair dryer, I am not exactly sure what was your problem, however, just to mention that we have hair dryers, in all rooms. For the iron, indeed we do offer it to our clients upon request. During busy periods, due to high demand, unfortunately we cannot accommodate and assist at once all of them. Our prime location, is considered our hotel value, where all our guests, especially tourists, enjoy and appreciate. Finally, we do have twin and double beds too. Upon request we try to do our best and offer the desired bed type.

I hope that we shall have the pleasure to welcome you again in the near future.

At your disposal,

Iro Chatzilia

Excellent location nested in the heart of the city. Convenient to walk to the Acropolis and the Plaka area. Beautiful view at night. Staff was helpful and efficient. Nice memorable trip.

Ride to Sounion was a total experience. Our guide,George Koufopoulos was very will equipped with all sorts of books and knowledge to share with my kids and us. It made our ride up there the best history lesson for all of us. What we planned for three hours turned out to be a whole day of experiences. Thank you for making this one our best vacations.

We stayed three nights at the Hera Hotel in June 2013. The hotel is perfectly located near the fantastic Plaka neighborhood, and a very short walk to the Acropolis museum and Acropolis hill. The service, location, and breakfast were all great, but we did encounter a few hiccups during our stay.

- the bathtubs have no drain stop - when we inquired about getting one, the front desk said they had purposely removed them from all of the rooms. Have never heard of this before!

- we had an Acropolis view room for the last two nights of our stay, but you need to actually go out onto your balcony and turn to the right to see the view - there is NO VIEW from the rooms. as the rooms all face the same direction, I would assume this is true for all the "view" rooms.

- the free wifi was spotty at best.

On the bright side, the roof top bar has a fantastic view of the Acropolis and is where you want to be at sunset!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review.

Its really sad to hear that you didnt enjoy the view from your room. Honestly, the Standard rooms with Acropolis view are our popular rooms. Of course the view cannot be from the room, since we are located in the center of Athens. However, standing in the window , the view is breathtaking!

Regarding your comment for the bathtubs, indeed we have removed all drain stops due to technical problems. We apologize for not enjoying your bath.

However, I assume that. overall, you enjoyed your stay with us and hope that we shall have the pleasure to see you again.

Best regards,

The Hera is in a great location near the Acropolis, the New Acropolis Museum, and some fun streets for tourist shopping and dining nearby.

The rooms are quite small, but nicely appointed. (I've stayed only in the rooms assigned to single travelers, so others may be a bit larger.)

The breakfast has a lot of variety and very good coffee.

A computer for guest use is on the second floor, and works a bit slowly, but still OK.
