We used the happy train more-so to get around and to see things quickly as we only had the 1 day in Athens.
The train itself was a fun experience but if I were to be taking it to hear the commentary on all the places we passed, I would have been disappointed.
Instead, we got off at the places we wanted to see and got back on when it came around later.

The train audio system is very poor. The train also goes through very busy roads so the commentary is impossible to understand over the traffic noise. The driver and guide do not explain much on how it works unless asked in detail. They could not hear us when we asked to go down in one of the stops and we missed it. Finally, after waiting 15 extra minutes in one stop (train supposedly passes by every 30) with 2 more people, the driver did not see us and did not stop whether we shouted or jumped and moved our hands. Another 40 minutes wait..

We took the happy train from Constitution Square and had a good view of the city as the train passed by various landmarks. Having done the train journey, we had a good idea of the landmarks to visit on our own. The highlight of the trip is a wonderful ride through the narrow, beautiful lanes of Plaka!

It is located just one of the corner of Syntagma Square

every 20 minutes it starts to run

it takes about 45 minutes or so

have fun and sightseeing transport

go thru big crowded avenues, the parliment, the monuments, the war museum, the zappeion hall, the temple of Zeus, the Lantern of Diagnosis in Plaka ( where there is a life day and nite mostly banned to the trafic ) , etc

price Euro 5.- per person and you may leave any point of 11 , and continue with the next one

enjoy!

Four years ago, this was a priceless excursion. The little train took you around Plaka, the Agora and the base of the rock and you could hop off and on as you pleased. Now, it takes you along main roads, through exhaust fumes, you can only start at Syntagma Square and although it skirts through the edge of the Plaka, it goes nowhere near the main sights of Athens. The commentary is impossible to understand over the traffic noise, and it is generally not a pleasant experience. I'm not sure why they have changed the route, but I wouldn't bother with it again.
