“Fantastic location an spacious rooms-- Room service is great!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2010

My husband and I, along with my mother and her friend, booked two rooms at the NJV Athens Plaza through hotels.com. We stayed for 4 nights, and had a special deal for 4 nights for the price of 3. Excellent price for such a wonderful location!

We toured Greece for 3 days with Spiros the Driver, a wonderful man who speaks great English and lived in New York for 20 years, who took us to the Acropolis and Parthenon, Temple of Zeus and the Changing of the Guard at Syntagma Square, then to Sounion to see the fantastic views and the temple of Apollo.

We went to the Pelopponesian Peninsula to see Ancient Corinth, Mycenae, Epidaurus, and Naphlion another day The third day we went to Delphi, where Spiros arranged for a very good guide, Georgia, to take us through the Temple of Delphi and other sites there. On the way back we went to Agios Lucas, a beautiful restored monastery in the mountains.

Spiros gave us lots of information about Greece and its history, as well as knowing where all the best restaurants and shops for jewelry and handmade pottery were located. He was invaluable, and maximized our vacation by knowing how to get us most efficiently to and from our destinations, some of which were quite tricky. He has an excellent web site which lists many of the destinations and what you can see.

We loved the location of the hotel and had a room on the 8th floor with large private balcony which looked up to the Acropolis and Parthenon. We could look the other way to the Parliament Building and Syntagma Square. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and the bathroom very nice. There was a desk/ dressing table with mirror and stool. A large closet with safe was welcome. There was a bench which folded out for one suitcase, and the other could be put into the closet on a shelf. We put some of our clothes in the drawers in the built-in desk. The furnishings had been renovated for the Olympics, so the headboard was a bit worn and the carpet corners were coming up a tiny bit. Besides that, everything was very nice.

There were two chairs and a small round table, and we took them out on our balcony one night to have our cocktails. A magical night watching the Parthenon as sunset deepened into night, and the Acropolis gradually lighted up!

The two ladies had a room on the same side of the building on the 5th floor, but it did not have a Parthenon view. I asked Niko at the desk to check for a room with view for them, since we were staying for a while-- he was so nice and called back later with a room with a view, although the ladies decided they were settled and happy enough with their room so did not want to move after all.

We loved the room service! The eggs were fresh and perfectly cooked-- we got 2 boiled eggs so that we could get dressed and eat at the same time, to get ready for our early-start tourist days. The ham was good, but the bacon was even better-- crispy and wonderful and plentiful! They brought slices of bread as well, and a tomato, so we usually split the breakfast and it was plenty for the two of us. The breakfast was about 8 Euros, which was a decent price for a full room service breakfast.

The room service was extremely prompt-- less than 15 minutes from the time we called in our order each morning, and the servers were smiling and pleasant and very nice.

The lobby was spacious and comfortable, with chandeliers and a marble floor, and a nice cafe area with comfortable chairs and low tables to the side where you could order coffee or a drink. The buffet breakfast and restaurant were on the next level up, but we did not eat there since we wanted to maximize our morning time, and the 20 Euro breakfast was not included in our room. It looked wonderful, with all manner of fabulous foods spread out on the tables every morning.

All in all, a wonderful stay! E. Jones, Atlanta, GA

There was nothing special about the inside of this hotel though it was clean, had everything needed and the staff were friendly and helpful. What made it great however was the location - right on Syntagma square with the changing of the guard right on the door step and the acropolis either a short walk or an underground stop away. It was a great location for exploring the main Athens tourist sights in a short space of time.

Loved this hotel in Athens, couldn't ask for a better location, or better service. Staff very friendly & helpful, and also very well informed. Rooms very comfortable & homey, as well as immaculately clean, bathrooms were even cleaned a second time during the day, although we were only staying one night. Metro station literally a half minute walk from the hotel, and within walking distance of Ermou street, Monastiraki, Plaka, Thisseio, Psιrri & Kolonaki areas, for shopping, dining, & nightlife. For my next visit to Athens I won't even bother checking out other hotels, this is the one!

We stayed at this property in April for a week of business and leisure. The hotel location is excellent, being on Syntagma square, so it made a great hub for me during the week of business activities in the daytime, as well as after work hour social gatherings with my wife and friends, since we could just walk to the main tourist sites or sat in cafes and people watch. I did feel the attitude of the hotel reception staff seemed a bit put-off, esp. when you tried to get some help on directions. Perhaps they were busy with handling many other guests' checkin/out, so couldn't handle too many tasks at once. Suggestion: get a concierge in house to assist guests who are mostly tourists in Athens and would expect to need some support from the hotel staff. Our room had a king size bed which was very comfortable. I like room layout, with a small balcony affording us the view of the Acropolis, and LCD TV with enough international channels. We could hear the traffic noise with the open sliding door, but once the door was shut everything was nice and quiet. I don't think the hotel has a fitness center, but since we walked so much everyday anyways, for us there is no need to use the gym. Didn't eat at the hotel so couldn't comment on that. Also did not use the internet as it was not free and in fact quite a high charge.
Overall, it was a comfortable stay as tourists, mainly due to the hotel's great location, and comfortable room. Tip: we took the bus (x95?) from/to airport. The bus stop is at the square, opposite the hotel, so very convenient indeed, and we also felt very safe very late at night. Athens is a lovely city with so many sites to see, and great food, and gelato!

My wife and I recently stayed with NJV while on our Honeymoon.

Upon arrival the hotel manager, George Dolaptsis, was very kind and helpful with our needs and especially relating to a taxi who had overcharged us... the bellhop of a good hotel will help make sure you dont get overcharged by the taxi.

Our room was very clean and well situated - great balcony looking out at the acropolis!

Thanks again George!
