Except toilet smells, everything else is nice: breakfast, location & attentive staff. They helped to book midnight taxi to pick up us at the ferry port, with a price lower than Internet. They helped us to catch Delphi tour which was a few station away from the nearest metro. The service is super. The construction has a problem. Overall it is worthy the money spent

This is a small, well-located hotel roughly halfway between the busy Syngrou Fix and the Acropolis. The staff are very welcoming, courteous and helpful. Their attention to details was visible right from receiving clear instructions on how to reach the hotel from airport, excellent suggestions on local dining, keeping our luggage while we were away on the Classical Tour, and even negotiating on our behalf with an enterprising Greek taxi driver!

However, the rooms did not live up to the standard set by the impeccable staff. We spent four nights here, in two different rooms. On two occasions, the airconditioner gave way in the middle of the night, flooding our rooms. When it happened the first time. we reported this and it was attended to by the next morning. Then it happened again on our final night, this time in a different room.

To their credit, the staff didn't try to disown or side-track the problems. They acknowkedged that some of the rooms were 'a bit tired' and needed revamping. They also made a token discount on our final night's bill to demonstrate their appreciation of our problem. While the amount wasn't important, the gesture definitely was!

Room Tip: Look for a room on the front side, with a balcony!

I love this hotel, I've stayed there every time I visit Athens for the past five years. The staff and location are excellent, as is the breakfast room, which has a view of the Parthenon if you are willing to lean over the balcony! Yes, the rooms are a little dated, and scruffy in places, but this isn't a high end hotel. What it is is a great family run hotel with very good prices for its location. I really can't recommend it highly enough!

My partner and I stayed for 2 nights in early May and 3 in mid-June at the end of our first trip to Greece. In briefing us before we arrived the owners emailed all we needed to know to get to the Hotel. They and the staff took all care to ensure we relaxed and enjoyed Athens. We echo what other recent reviews say. The curiosities - the lift yes, but it works: - the wear and tear of the bedroom furniture, we got used to.
To sum up more than a month after our stay: we would happily stay again

We stayed for 3 nights in June 2013, with 2 connecting rooms for 4 people. The location is hard to beat - short walking distance to the acropolis and many great restaurants as well as a lovely pedestrian-only street, great bakery, and public transportation.

The staff are fantastic; very friendly, helpful, and genuine. The hotel is on a quiet side-street, so it's excellent for sleeping.

The only thing that I can say is that the rooms are a little tired and could use some sprucing up. Since the beds were clean & comfortable (very firm mattresses, standard in Greece), and the linens were good, it was fine. But the closets and bathrooms were so-so. There was some mold along the grout lines in the shower, the door was slightly broken, there was peeling finish on the hand-held shower, and there were bug-traps in the closets (though we didn't see any bugs.) I guess for the price it was good, but it would be nice if they would repair and update things a bit. Breakfast was more than adequate, though nothing outstanding. We ate for less at a nearby bakery on one of the mornings, though it is nice to eat in the hotel with hard boiled eggs and fruit, etc.

Overall, we were quite satisfied- the lovely staff, the location, and the reasonably low cost is what made it work for us.

I first stayed at the Art Gallery Hotel in 2007 and have been back several times both with my family and with groups of American university students. The owners and the staff are all extremely friendly and they feel and act as if they were all part of a family; they have always gone out of their way to make their guests feel as if they, too, were part of that family. The rooms are small but always clean and well kept, and if you're going on short overnight trips and then returning to Athens, the staff will store luggage until you return. The hotel is well situated, close to Plaka and the Acropolis but without any of the noise. The breakfasts (which are served on the 4th floor where a balcony looks out at the Acropolis) offer a wide variety of food and drink and are always filling. My students, my family and I love the food, the view, the location and the staff. You really do feel as if you are coming home when you return to this hotel.
