“Nice familial hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2012

Only 15 minutes away from downtown this hotel is a nice place for few days staying. Rooms are quiet small but clean and affordable. Staff is really friendly and helpful.
If we had to go back to Athens, we'd definetely go back there!

Nice and close to the metro station, clean and comfortable, friendly and helpful staff with a lot of local knowledge (the owner was born in the property!), it's a 10 minute walk to the foot of acropolis and the tourist centre of Athens, Plaka. The price is very reasonable. Free Wi-fi in rooms, free use of desktop computer in the lobby and no problem with a late check-in, theygive you the entry code, leave the key on the desk and welcome you properly in the morning.

Things to maybe have in mind:

No-one has heard of Marble House (including taxi drivers close by) so follow the directions the hotel give you when you book and keep the address with you.

The breakfast is light, only toast, jam, juice and tea/ coffee and its 5 euros, we took the breakfast both days for convenience but its not really 5 euros worth!!

Great hotel, would 100% stay there again.

The best part about Marble House was the price. We paid 45 Euro a night to get a room with a private bath. The location of Marble House is decent. It is a five minute walk from the metro and 10-15 minutes from the Acropolis. If you are trying to save money, I would recommend the Marble House, however, if you are looking for a romantic hotel I would not recommend it. I booked a double room for my husband and myself, but it had two twin beds that were on opposite sides of the room. Additionally, the private bathroom was not attached to the room. The owner is very helpful and friendly. The place is very clean and there are bakeries and grocery stores nearby.

Everything you read about the family who owns the place is true. They are friendly, welcoming, very polite and attentive to make your stay a remarkable experience. They do not lack the smiles nor the precious hints about the city and the basic do's and dont's.
That being said, on to the location: it is GREAT. First because you can easily get there (Syngrou-Fix station) from the airport via subway (one change only at Syntagma station). It's a 5-8 min walk according to how you're packed. Second because it's in a very quiet residential area in the city (grocery stores, supermarket, bakeries are just around the corner). Third because it's within a short walking distance to the Acropolis area and its surroundings (Plaka and Monastiraki districts), say, 10-12 min. Fourth because besides the metro you also have the tram line in Syngrou-Fix to go to the beaches in Attica. Fifth because there's also a bus stop that goes all the way to Sounio (Temple of Poseidon) near the Tram/Metro Syngrou-Fix stations. It's an all-you-can-have logistics base in a very pleasing area.
The hotel itself is not about luxury and glamour. It does not have a phone or tv set, but then again, you're not in Athens to watch tv, and if you did I assume you would not understand much (it's all Greek to me at least). You have a comfortable bed, clean towels, bathroom amenities, hairdryer (on demand) and a fan on the ceiling. And free wifi. It is more than enough for me, but it depends on your traveling style. If you want fancy hotel rooms, then maybe it's not for you. Either way, it sure worked beautifully for my wife and I in our recent stay and I do recommend Marble House to anyone, hoping this review might be useful.

Room Tip: Book a room with private bathroom if you feel more comfortable that way. Otherwise spare the money a...

the rooms are clean and the famlily-owend hotel has recently been renovated. we choosed a room with private bath, which was neat. as we did not spend much time at the hotel, the room was big enough for 2 people.
christos is very friendly, helpful and happy to give you advice about your stay in athens.
please print the e-mail with the directions, otherwise is hard to find because of the quite location. nevertheless the hotel is close to akrololis and plaká.

Nice, simple hotel in a quiet street of down town Athens. Metro and restaurants are nearby. Room rates are in accordance with quality. Hotel is situated in a nice street, without any traffic. Nearest metro is at 500 metres from the hotel.

Very well situated, near acropolis and Plaka.
Be carefull to take a room with climatisation if you come in summer !
Rooms are clean but the bathroom is not always in the room, so it's better to ask before.
Breakfast is cheap and good.

Christos is very kind and cheerful.
