Superb modern stadium just outside of the city

Around E15 from city centre

Also accessible via bus and train

Tickets can be bought on day of match from a small kiosk outside of the stadium. Prices start from E10 (seat behind the goal opposite the main home supporters)

There are currently no away fans allowed despite the atmosphere is loud and very intense. Expect constant singing chanting smoke bombs flares and the loudest bangers Ive ever heard

Plenty of stalls outside to eat and people walk through the terraces selling snacks

We had a great time walking around the stadium and seeing all the marble! The tunnel that leads under the stadium is a must. You get to see all the torches from past events!!

Even though it’s far from the center, I was very happy that I decided to go. We were several so we took an Uber, which is faster than the metro, but if you have time the metro is ok. It’s an abandoned park, all conceived by the spanish architect Calatrava for the 2004 olympics. We went inside the stadium because we found our way in and nobody said we couldn’t. The stadium is still in use by a football club. It’s cool to be there, and as with everything else in Athens, you have to imagine how it was back then. It’s much better to go in a sunny day.

We went for an AEK Championship game on a weekday. The stadium can be seen far away and it’s awesome architecture is equally admirable near by. The traffic was really bad and it took an hour by taxi to the stadium from downtown Athens. Atmosphere was pretty good considering ~50% capacity. However, the home fans died down towards the end of the game when the home team would have needed their support most. We were seated on the 9th row and could not see the pitch well due to ducks outs - this should have been informed beforehand as restrictive seats but that wasn’t the case. It was worth a visit but I’m not planning to come back again.

This once beautiful Olympic site is now, to a large extent, abandoned and falling apart. Some of the stadiums are still intact and, I assume, still in use but the overall area is depressing to see. One bright spark is that some construction seems to be being carried out but I could find no details of what was going on.
