My wallet was stolen on the metro from the airport on the way to this hotel. The receptionist's main concern was whether they could still clear my payment for the room on my debit card which was also stolen. I got the impression that they would have refused to check me in if it hadn't cleared, although I had no cash and needed to make various phone calls to my bank, insurance company, etc. I got some emergerncy cash within three hours but as far as the Hotel Oscar was concerend, I would have been making my calls from the street if I hadn't been able to pay for the room immediately and presumably sleeping there for the nigfht as well if my insurance company hadn't been so helpful and efficient. Athens has turned into a dangerous sleaze-pit in the last decade, probably due to the recession and other problems. I have been passing through for nearly forty years but will try not to do so again. It's not the fault of the ordinary local Greek population but my advice is to avoid the place unless you are desperate to see the Acropolis and museums. If you are going to the islands, fly directly to them. I have changed my return flight and will be departing from Santorini instead.

The roof top bar, although service was slow was quite nice. The room was a bit cramped but seemed okay. Wifi worked. The hotel is next to Larrissa Station so if you need a train, the location is excellent. Otherwise it is quite a walk to anywhere else in Athens or a metro trip on which you will be pushed, shoved and very likely robbed! There are gangs of young men everywhere who watch your every move.

Room Tip: Get a room in another city!

This hotel was ok. We had a room for 4 people. It was spacious enough. Balcony was a big plus even if there was no chairs. The room smelled a bit of smoke, but it must have been because of the old carpet. The room was clean. It would need some updating. The hotel was 1 min away from the metro. And 7min ride from the Acropolis. There was a supermarket across the street. Also a nice Pita place close by. Breakfast was a bit boring. It would have needed some tomatoes, salad or cucumber. Wifi didnt really work that well. Sometimes it worked in the room on my phone, but not on my mom's phone at all. Elevators were really too small, for max 4 people. 2 people with bags. It was impossilbe to get an elevatot in the morning. Stairs were pretty deep with the small kids.

It's an ok hotel. Nothing fancy, but has good connections.

Convenient location next to the main railway station, underground station and taxi stop. Some food shops within walking distance.Breakfasts although somehow boring (the same every day) enable a good start for the day as they provide a lot of food.
The turn of April and May seem to be be best timing for sightseeing in Athens.
On a separate note be careful with taxis - agree on the payment before commercing the journey. What you pay is not always what you see on the taxi meter.

We just visitied Athens with 35 students from High School and had a great experience. Rooms were all very clean. Some had very comfy beds, and others had stiff, hard beds. The food was great and staff very welcoming-especially with teens! There was a LOT of students-so maybe not a great hotel for a quiet get away with the spouse. Students also had a great time in the pool with a view of the Acropolis. There is also a really nice outside patio/bar for the adults right next to the pool.

My husband and I spent 3 nights in this 3-star hotel at the end of March – on a quick city-break in Athens. The big plus of this fairly cheap hotel is its excellent location in a modern building, just near Larissis metro station – on line 2, only 4 stations away from Syntagma square; in no more than 10 minutes you get to the centre of Athens and farther down to Akropolis, on the same line 2. Larissis railway station is just across the street so easy to travel from there by train all around Greece. The neighbourhood is rather modest, lacking restaurants or pubs (there is only a small taverna between the hotel and the metro station), so for lunch or dinner you have to be in the centre. There aren’t any shops either, except a Carrefour supermarket just opposite the hotel. Very nice staff. Breakfast – continental buffet – quiet basic and repetitive (cheap salami, Swiss cheese, eggs, etc. etc.). Cleaners change towels every day, beds are comfy, minifridge ok. For those on a tight budget who do not spend more than a couple of nights in Athens, a low-rate room has quite a few drawbacks: it is small, with back view and a tiny balcony; it might smell heavily of cigarette smoke and the bathroom drains really stink. I know the hotel has also better rooms but, of course, at higher rates, so you can make your pick in advance. Lifts not quite to H&S standards….And yeah, as others have mentioned, the hotel apparently gets regular groups of young students, when the corridors get noisy, the restaurant crammed and lifts jammed with kids fooling around, up and down. But even if overall it’s not the best 3-star hotel, I wouldn’t mind staying here again on a next quick trip to Athens: it’s cheap and close to the centre.
