“Caveat Emptor”

Good experience: close to Metro and train station, making access to taxis and the rest of the city easy; roof bar (drinks are not cheap); view is tremendous from the roof cafe/pool area; cafe around the corner to the left is pretty good.

Unexpected experience: air conditioning, even on high speed, is not really cool, and there is no thermostat; have to use room key to enable power in the room; free breakfast is European and not what you're used to at Waffle House or any American hotel chain; staff has trouble with English--be prepared to be misunderstood; beds are nothing more than box springs--no sleep number beds here--your back will be sore when you get up in the morning; internet connectivity in their internet cafe is sketchy, hard to remain connected, difficult to use; not in the best part of town; abundance of tourists in groups using the hotel.

If you are in Athens for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, spend the extra money and find a hotel with more stars and better beds.

We stayed in the Oscar Hotel for 2 nights. Parked in the street just up from the hotel and asked the guy on reception if our car would be OK there - he assured us it would. Went out later and it had been broken into and a bag stolen. Frustrating after having driven all the way from Scotland (in the days after Karadicz was captured, through Bosnia, Serbia and Kosovo) with no problems. We were then informed that it was a bad area - had we been told that originally we would have used the secure car park in the next street.
Hotel and room was OK, food mediocre.
Staff were helpful.
Hotel was in a good location for the metro.
Athens itself (other than the Acropolis / Plaka area) is dirty (including a used syringe on the pavement) and covered in graffiti.

Friendly staff, typical good Greek hospitality, excellent location next to metro, clean large rooms, piscine with fantastic view to Parthenon, good price, close to museums and other main attractions (Omonia, Sintagma, Plaka, Monastiraki, Akropolis), sufficient breakfast, beautiful paintings from famous painters in the basement.

Excellent hotel, with extremely friendly staff, good breakfast, logical price, very good location-METRO, close to museums and to down town area, exceptional expensive paintings on the walls from very famous European painters. We stay in the hotel for 4 nights with my wife.

Everything was pretty good except for the unfriendly staff, we had questions regarding different things and they were unattentive and wanted to get rid of you fast, the only person that actually helped us was the guy at the front desk that was working in the morning..the mid-shift guy and the late-night one were terrible!

We found this hotel to be absolutely brilliant!! We were slightly worried when we looked at other peoples' reviews about this hotel, but were in fact extremely impressed by what we found!

The staff of this hotel were very helpful and willing to go the extra mile for you. The maids cleaned the room everyday and gave fresh towels. There was shampoo, and other helpful toiletries in the room and a fridge which was great to keep drinks cool in hot Athens!

The breakfast was good with lots of bread, croissants, scrambled egg, sausage or bacon, cereal, peaches, and greek yogurt. Drinks selection was good too with teas, coffees, hot chocolate and hot milk- what more could we ask for?! Contrary to what other reviews have said, breakfast was continuously stocked up.

The swimming pool was not huge, but absolutely amazing as not many hotels in the city have pools! The view from the pool was breathtaking - especially as the sun was setting!

For us this hotel was more than we could have wanted, no complaints at all!! (",)

  • Liked — It has a pool
  • Disliked — There were no sun loungers by the pool

I booked this hotel through hotelbook.com mostly based on the description given through the website at $160.00 USD per night.
When we arrived there was no reservation made, and they could not locate it becasue it was a holiday in Greece. They had a room available for us and were quick to get us keys, without requiring any information from us, other then our names.
I had booked a large room with a King size bed, fruit and wine, and two hours of free internet.
When we got to the room, it was a small room with two full size bed crammed into it, dirty carpets and a very, very small bathroom which didn't even offer complementary shampoo. I went to the reception to complain about the room and they told me that I actually got the best room they had.
We were extremely tired from the trip and since we had only two days there, we decided to stay.
Internet was 5 euros an hour (about 8 US dollars) there was absolutely no WINE OR FRUIT!
We tried the restaurant and their sitting was for 12 people each table, and you sat wherever available, the menu was not available as they only served one thing. Brekfast was horrible, the tray with eggs had no heat, so they served cold eggs that actually looked brown on top from being so cold. The only fruit available was canned peach in high fluctose syrup.
This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and would not reccomend to anyone.
There many more turn offs, but one thing I suggest. DO NOT believe the pictures on their website, or just imagine them 100 years later.
This was a second honeymoon, but I am glad we had an amazing hotel in Italy to follow this catatrophy.

  • Liked — Nothing
  • Disliked — The bed was hard and I could feel the springs all night long.
