“An Excellent Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2009

Themain characteristic of this hotel is that it is very-very clean. It is as central as it can be. 2 minutes from "plaka area", 7 minutes from "acropoli" and the museum, 4 minutes from "ermou", 10 minutes from "kolonaki" and in generall in a vey short distance from all basic attractions. The staff is more than helpfull and they create a friendly atmosphere. rooms are spacious. They upgrated us for no reason to a junior suite and made us very happy! There is also a small garden where you can sit and drink your coffee or eat your breakfast or just to relax. It is a very nice touch if you concider that you are in the center of the city! There is also a restaurant on the top roof with an amazing view to acropolis, but it is a bit too expensive and they could concider to add less complicated food at the menu. It was too "gourmet".

This is a nice hotel in a good location, most attractions are walkable and if not they are a very short cab ride.

The best feature of the hotel is the amazing view of the acropolis from the roof terrace restaurant and bar, I could have sat there with a book all day.

I didnt eat in the restaurant but breakfast was fine - there was a vast selection and something for everyone. The courtyard is a nice scene for breakfast, was very pleasant.

The outdoor pool was very small and cold but the indoor one was nice and there was never anyone in there. I had a massage in the spa which was nice and relazing.

The room was ok, quite small but I didn't spend much time in there and it had everything I needed.

All in all this was a nice place, although I'm not sure if i would go back as it was quite expensive.

Nice hotel, shockingly rude and small-minded staff!!! We have stayed at this hotel twice now. It is in an enviable position in the Plaka. The shops and tavernas of the Plaka are a few steps away and it is also close to the Acropolis and other sights, plus a short walk from Syntagma square. The rooms are well equipped and some have great views of the acropolis or garden views but it does seem to be a lottrery as to whether you will receive one of these rooms or one with a rather more dingy interior brick wall courtyard view. This happened to us despite us having requested a room with a view and we had to complain in order to be moved. The guy behind the desk was rude, claiming that rooms in our price range with a view were all taken, that they could move us to a room with an acropolis view but that it was way over the amount we had paid. This was all said loudly in front of other guests in the lobby; the guy in charge almost sneered at us, and so I sympathise with other reviewers who have had less than polite service. They did make you feel as though they were talking about you behind your back, to such an extent that i didn't feel comfortable crossing the hotel lobby unless I was with my partner.

As a gay couple we were very disapointed with how we were treated from the staff. Snide coments & visual hand guestures, Which is not what we except in a FIVE STAR hotel. We have stayed in many five star hotels over the years and have never never had this. It wasnt only at us, we saw it being done to another male couple behind ther backs All I can say (SHOCKING STAFF) THEY MUST HAVE HANG UPS THEMSELF'S. So guy's if you are gay and sensitive to this type of treatment then I sugest you find another hotel, that is advertised as gay friendly. But dont let this put you Off Athens It's FANTASTIC.

Summary:
Great location and a very nice looking hotel, but lacking in the basic functionalities. I believe this hotel to be over-priced for what it has to offer.

Pro's:
- Location - this hotel is very close (walking distance) to many of the cultural sights, good restaurants, and good night life.
- Elegant - a nice lobby and a rooftop restaurant with a great view of the Acropolis.
- "Free" Breakfast - There is a breakfast buffet included in the over-priced room...not the best buffet, but it has a great selection and the quality is adequate.

Con's:
- Room Size - for the price we paid, the room was rather small for two adults and the two twin beds were situated right next to each other (for space reasons)...might as well have just been a single queen bed.
- Bed Comfort - the bed is as comfortable as lying on a slightly softened piece of ply-wood and the pillows have absolutely no substance.
- Air Conditioning - The air conditioner did not work, we had to sleep with the window open in November because the room was sweltering.
- No Free internet! - This is a luxury hotel that nickel and dimes; most of even the cheapest hotels where I am from offer free internet.

Large foyer and outdoor area on the ground floor is just the first surprise with this hotel. There is a rooftop pool which looks at the Acropolis. The rooms are roomy with little extra touches like robes and slippers. Right next to the Plaka. Breakfast was lovely although the waiters could be a little more friendlier and the coffee hotter. A lovely hotel in a great area.
