“Great hotel - centrally located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

Visited Athens in November with my wife and enjoyed both the city and this hotel. Had one of the small budget rooms but got if for for less than 200€ for two nights (in total) which I thought was a good price.
The breakfast is really good and the view from the restaurant is spectacular.
The Acropolis and the old part of the city is very close by.
Only downside - lived at the third floor and experienced a little traffic noice.

Room Tip: Get a room as high as possible to avoid traffic noice.

We stayed in Sep 13, the hotel is on a busy road but ask for a room at the back. Fantastic location, easy walking distance to the Paka area and Acropolis, and the best rooftop bar in Athens. The staff are extremely helpful in places to see and will explain and teach you any Greek words to help your stay. Just ask them - a little effort from a visitor and respect for their culture is greatly appreciated and goes a very long way.

Only stayed one night on the return trip - but I loved this hotel. Super great roof - lovely view of the Parthenon - and it's fairly private. A great place to have a cocktail with your love pal. Really close to the Acropolis Museum (a must see), and the ruins themselves. Ask for a quiet room - you won't be disappointed.

The athens gate hotel is in a terrific location and allows easy access to all tourist spots. However, it is very important that you pick which side of the hotel you want you bedrooms to because it makes all the difference as to whether you will get any sleep. In terms of the quality of service it was a terrific hotel with great staff. The owners do need to get out of the medieval ages and stop charging for internet access.

My wife and I stayed here at the end of our trip. The location, near the Acropolis Museum, is excellent! It was easy to walk anywhere in the old town from here. The rooms were clean and modern and comfortable, and we even had a great view of the Acropolis from our window/balcony. The staff was great, and breakfasts were good. Only downside: in-room internet was crazy expensive. You could use it for free in the upstairs restaurant, but that was inconvenient (and often slow or not working; it seems like maybe they turn it off during breakfast).

I haven't stayed here yet, but will definitely write a review after we get back. I wanted to let people know about their amazing help with pre-arrival stuff. We asked for directions from the metro station via email, and within 24 hours had a response in perfect English. Additionally, they let me know about the transfer they have which only costs 45euro from the airport to the hotel - you can pay directly with the hotel when you check in via credit card and the driver waits for you in the arrivals hall. Considering I've heard about how ripped off one can get by the taxi drivers in Athens, I was happy to hear about an adequately priced transfer option with the hotel. We booked it! Every time I have emailed them, they respond within 24 hours and that is something I love! We looked forward to staying there and I will be sure to give a review when we get back from our stay! -Rachael

I stayed at this hotel with a group of 6 friends for 5 nights during the 2013 Athens Classic Marathon.

The location is excellent, close to metro and tram lines. Within 100m of the new Acropolis museum, Temple of Zues and other attractions. One caution on the location, the map on the hotel's website shows the correct location of the hotel, but when I visited, google maps had the hotel location about 6 blocks southwest of the correct location. The hotel is directly across the street from the Temple of Zues.

The rooftop bar and restaurant have fantastic views of the Acropolis and the Temple of Zues. In fact I'd say the view of the Acropolis is better even than the Acropolis museum. The breakfast buffet is good (better than most hotels), but the food I tried in the restaurant at other times is only average and quite expensive (as it tends to be in most hotels). Enjoy the views at breakfast or for drinks and snacks in the evenings but take your lunch and dinner somewhere else.

The rooms are a very good size for European hotels, including balconies. Bathrooms are spacious by European standards. My room had only a shower (which was fine for me) but other rooms had bathtubs. The housekeeping service was very efficient and thorough. Wifi was free in the lobby or in the restaurant but available for an extra charge in the rooms.

The friendliness of the staff is a major asset for this hotel, from the doorman to the reception staff to the servers in the restaurant to the housekeepers, everyone we encountered was professional, friendly and helpful. Really couldn't expect better service than we received here.

All in all, I have no trouble recommending this hotel to others and would stay here again on another trip to Athens.

Room Tip: Rooms on the North side have views of the Acropolis, rooms on the South side have views of the Templ...
