I loved my stay at Athens Gate. The rooftop views can't be beat. The room was small but clean (called an interior room because it faced a back street). Of course I would have liked free internet in the room, but it is free on the roof. Within walking distance of public transit.

Excellent location. Close to the train station and all the monuments. Only a short walk, fantastic!
The staff were excellent - always kind and friendly. Its just perfect for seeing all the historical sites in the city. The views from our room and the rooftop garden were amazing. The rooms were clean and nicely appointed and i just loved there breakfast.
Rooms were little small, No free Wifi & Parking. But who care if you have such gr8 location and meal.
Highly recommend this place.Dont forgot to were your sport shoes as you have lots of walking. Cheers!!

We have stayed here several times in the last several years. I really enjoy my visits here. The staff treats us like family.
The morning breakfast is great especially when you are gazing at the Acropolis and having your meal.
Ideally located close to a Metro station, Plaka and the beautiful Acropolis Museum.
I recommend it highly.

Room Tip: the top front have a beautiful view but the street noise might be a little much. the back rooms are...

Location, location, location! That sums up the Athens Gate Hotel. The hotel is blessed with a great location just a short 7 minute walk to the Parthenon and the charming area called Plaka with Hadrian's Arch is just opposite the hotel!

Its location also saved the day when our tour bus had to drop us off somewhere else when the roads were closed in anticipation of Athen's famed demonstrations. We only had to take a leisurely 5 minute walk and we were ensconced happily in our fairly well appointed rooms.

When we checked in after a Greek Isle cruise, we found a complementary bottle of wine and fruit basket complete with a welcome card from the hotel manager. This is the second time we'd stayed in this hotel and the rooftop restaurant offers great views of the Acropolis and Temple of Zeus.

We found the staff friendly and helpful and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Acropolis

I searched for days to find a decent hotel, and in the end I got more than what I’d asked for. I booked two rooms: an Executive room and a Superior room. When we got to the hotel, we discovered the management of their own accord had already upgraded the superior room to an executive room (at the same rate of the superior room), which was a pleasant surprise.

The Executive rooms are adequately spacious for a couple traveling light. They also have a gorgeous view of either the Acropolis or the temple of the Olympian Zeus. They’re very bright and sunny, though three layers of thick curtain can help those who relish partial or complete darkness. They also have fantastic balconies, where you can relax and enjoy your room’s view, have a smoke, read a book, enjoy a glass of wine or whatever when you’re not in the mood to hit the town. Now, on the downside, beware that these rooms are located on the 7th floor, right beneath the roof garden restaurant. So, when people drop something heavy, move the furniture, or early in the morning when the staff is preparing breakfast, you may hear constant muffled banging noises, which is not really conducive to a good morning sleep, unless you're an early riser – I have to admit it gets more n’ more tolerable if as you get used to it. OAs for the staff, they were super-friendly and remarkably helpful – sublime service in my book. To my surprise, pretty much all of the locals that I came in contact with spoke decent English (in the hotel, at restaurants, in stores, in taxis (drivers), etc). Nonetheless, I advise you to at least learn the Greek alphabet. As for food: It was better thank OK at the restaurant, but not fantastic, though I never got a chance to eat anything above average (even at the roof garden of hotel Grande Bretagne, which is a pricey joint, which also happens to be at the top of the list of both the Michelin guide and Zagat). All in all, I highly recommend the hotel – if you’re not expecting to receive Hôtel George V-esque service and amenities. One last thing: If you’re like me and can’t live without the Internet, be prepared to fork up a few more Euros.

A word about the town itself: Many of the top 10 hotels (including this one) on Tripadvisor are within walking distance of one another (10-15 minutes by foot), and location-wise you can pretty much walk to any of the major attraction sights, so do not concern yourself with any of that. Also, definitely visit the Kolonaki and Plaka neighborhood. And when you visit Plaka, make sure that you travel up the hill through the tight alleys, as it will take you to gorgeous corner restaurants, and sympathique sights. You'll be in for a good surprise. Beware of cheeky taxi driver. As for the major attractions, there are millions of reviews out there, so I'll stay clear of those here.

My advice: go visit Athens!

Room Tip: 7th floor Executive rooms have great balconies, and beautiful views. But, they are right beneath the...

The taxi dropped us off in front of The Athens Gate Hotel which doesn't look like much from the outside but as soon as you walk in you're greeted by an extremely courteous staff. You get treats and water then it's off to your room. We had a triple that had a great view off the Temple of Zues. My daughter was so excited to have her bed against the window overlooking this! You could go up to the deck anytime to enjoy the unobstructed view of the Acropolis, breakfast was the best up there ( it made you jump out of bed in the morning). Internet service is now free on the top floor and in lobby. Just loved our stay. Room was clean. Absolutely the BEST location for sight seeing. Thank you, Athens Gate!

Everything is top notch here. Location is superb, staff friendly, will stay here again. It is minutes from the hop on hop off bus stop. Convenient location with shops and restaurants within minutes from the hotel. The acropolis museum is also very close by. We arrived early from a cruise and they were able to check us in by 10 a.m. Nothing can beat the great view at the rooftop restaurant where you get a complimentary breakfast.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 706a which is an internal budget room, very quiet and won't hear traffic noise...
