“Awesome view, but not much sleep”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2014

My review just echoes the others. The location is absolutely superb with a staggering view of the acropolis which the photos don't exaggerate. The reception staff could not have been more friendly or helpful but the bar staff upstairs might have been a little more accommodating towards hotel guests. the breakfast was reasonable enough with particularly nice fresh orange juice. The downside is that it is incredibly noisy and don't expect to get much sleep. We booked a room with view which was superb value, awesome view but it came with a noise premium overlooking Monastraki square and the church whose bells seemed to go on all night. Where does that leave me? I'd definitely return for a couple of nights but if staying for more than this I would probably stay somewhere a bit quieter for at least part of the trip.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and get an acropolis view.

A for Athens is a good little "boutique" hotel right in the heart of the Psiri, Plaka, Monastraki area of Athens. Our room had a good view of the Acropolis but was located on the first floor facing the busy square which meant it was very noisy. The room was simple/minimal but roomy. The bed wasn't particularly special. We also had trouble with the temperature of our room - we couldn't cool it down and it felt very humid/sticky. The halls/room also smelled faintly of smoke. Not sure if they even offer non-smoking rooms. The redeeming factor of this hotel is that it has a great roof-top restaurant where they serve breakfast and then becomes a hopping "locals" bar at night. Had we visited Athens during a warmer month, we might have taken more advantage of this. Overall, it was a fine hotel with a good location and a good bang for your buck.

I visited A for Athens in January only for one night as I wanted to wake up really early to catch the metro to Pireaus port the next morning.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very stylish and clean and the bar on the top amazing! But unfortunately I had a big problem. My room was on the first floor and the window just over the street. It was Saturday and the street was very busy. The soundproofing was terrible! You could hear the people talking like they were in the room.
As a result I didn't sleep at all. I'm not sure if I will go back to this hotel because if you can not sleep it doesn't worth!

A for Athens is perfectly situated for exploring all the sites. My wife and I spent 3 nights in one of the regular rooms, and one night in an "Acropolis view" room. The "Acropolis view" room really was quite spectacular, particularly at night. You can even look out over the Acropolis while taking a shower, thanks to strategically placed windows. One issue is noise, as you really are in the middle of things, and the noise from the square across the road really does travel, particularly the drum group that busks there. But, I guess a little noise is the price you have to pay to have such a great location. Actually, the "Acropolis view" room we were in was noisier than the regular room, as it faced directly onto the square, so we were glad with our choice of 3 nights in the regular room and one in the "Acropolis" room - definitely worth it for the night though. The rooms are very neat and tidy, with simple furnishings. However, we did find the beds a bit spongy feeling, more like foam than a high quality mattress. The breakfasts were very nice, and the view from where they are served on the top floor of the building is stunning. Nothing like enjoying a bowl of delicious Greek yoghurt while watching the early morning light reflect off the marble of the Acropolis. Be aware though that the restaurant on the top floor, where breakfast is served, is open to the public throughout the day, so there is a constant stream of people walking through the lobby of the hotel, which got a bit annoying, and it is virtually impossible to get a table in the evening. Also, smoking is allowed in the restaurant, which made it a no-go zone in the evenings for me. It was all non-smoking at breakfast though, thank God! All the staff working at the hotel were friendly, and gave us some good suggestions for restaurants etc. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at A for Athens. If I were to go back to Athens I would probably try a different hotel, somewhere quieter, though definitely have no regrets.

Room Tip: The Acropolis view room gave a spectacular view of the Acropolis, though was noisy. Was worth it fo...

Going back to this hotel after some time just reaffirmed to us how pleasant, handy, comfortable and good value for money it is. The management having placed another two elevators and separating the access to the extremely busy and naturally noisy roof garden bar and the rooms has been excellent and really needed. The rooms as usual were clean and well looked after and the breakfast was decent as well. Only their coffee at the breakfast again was average... Great to be there again.

Room Tip: Fantastic view at the front rooms but noisy, no view at the side rooms but quite. Your choice

The hotel is great, the location Is ideal!
Really great rooms and decoration, same goes to the roof garden!
But the receptionist was completely rude when I asked for some info...
That was the only problem but I'd go there again!

We reached A For Athens late in the evening. Vengelis greeted us at the reception and to our delightful surprise they had upgraded us to an ‘Acropolis View room’ on the second floor. When we entered the room we were just speechless to see the mighty acropolis from the large windows of our very spacious hotel room.

We had done lot of research before booking the hotel and we were suitably rewarded. You cannot ask for a better location! Hardly 50 meters from the Monastiraki Metro station, excellent connectivity with the airport / port and other major attractions, few minutes’ walk from Acropolis, Syntagma Sqaure and Plaka…. What more do you need.

There are so many eating options at various restaurants near the hotel. Plaka is full of beautiful souvenir shops and eateries. The best part was we found two good Indian restaurants less than half km from the hotel. The whole place was buzzing with tourist even till late night. There is a flea market nearby (make sure you bargain nicely).

Room as well as the wash room was very spacious and clean. They have a club on the roof top which is very popular amongst the locals. Fortunately we did not have any disturbance from the loud music, which people on high floors might be facing. The hotel elevator hardly accommodates 3-4 people at a time. But the guests staying at the hotel get the priority.

Breakfast is served at their rooftop restaurant. We asked for some veg options and staff offered to make cheese toast sandwiches especially for us…. Delicious!!.

All in all full marks to A for Athens!!

Room Tip: Second floor room (no 23) with Acropolis view is the best..
