“Not so great”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2013

The only excellent thing about this place is its location. Everything else is pretty average. Very mass tourism feeling, there are many other far better choices in Athens like Radisson Park where we would gladly return one day. Royal Olympic, not really, only thing royal about this place would be royal blue colour in rooms. Not bad, but definitely not 5 stars, more like 3 stars...

The Royal Olympic was such a great hotel- couldn't have picked a better location! The metro stop was so close and easy to figure out. The room was a good size & clean. It overlooked the pool. The pool was great- waiter service quickly available. The location was key- walked everywhere. The rooftop bar was open late & had an amazing lite up night time view of the Acropolos! Highly recommend this place.

Athens was the last leg of our Greek adventure. The hotel is situated in a great location to the most popular sights. This was most important to us since we were only spending one day here before returning home. The room was small but clean, not up to par with 5 star hotels. The view from the rooftop was nice and was also were breakfast was served. Breakfast was short staffed but had some good options.

This hotel is located right in front of the Temple of Zeus ruins and from the rooftop restaurant, you can look straight across at the Parthenon on the Acropolis! Luxurious hotel, staff speak English, will help with any request. Unbelievably lavish breakfast buffet on rooftop. Computer with internet avaialble to guests. Well-located. Very comfortable.

Room Tip: Our room was fine.

We stayed here for a few nights before moving on to the islands.

We paid for the deluxe room but got upgraded to a panoramic, so had a good view of Zeus's Temple to wake up to which was nice. The room was spacious and quite grand in an old style sense.

On arrival the receptionist wasn't the most enthusiastic person, but the rest of the staff were quite pleasant.

The location of this hotel is excellent as many other reviews mention.

The restaurant has a great view and good food, but to be honest there are cheaper and better places to eat in Athens. So once was enough for us. Didn't expect much from the hotel breakfast buffet so was quite happy with a fruit salad and juice, the cooked breakfast like many hotel buffets are never that great, but was edible.

Swimming pool was ok but got rather crowded, so a bit of patience is needed to get a lounger when it's busy. Occupation of loungers also occurs frequently. The pool was more of a refreshing dip after a hard days stroll in the heat, so not essential to our needs.

Review by 28 and 32 year old couple.

Royal Olympic Hotel is your pit stop and launch pad in Athens to stop and go. Centrally situated in the enormous city, the hotel is walking distance to everything you’d want to see if you plan to stay in Athens for no more than three days. My wife and I, we consider ourselves well-traveled enough to say that this hotel offers everything you’d need or want in a hotel.

Royal Olympic is about a block and a half walk from the underground Metro. From the airport, take the two trains that eventually drop you off at the Acropolis. The hotel itself is in a nice area, walking distance to the Acropolis, Zeus’ Monument, and is situated near the parliament building that offers miles of tracks in a wooded park—great for those looking to get a morning jog in. Plaka is a small nook tucked away, about a ten-minute walk from the hotel, that—while a bit touristy—is ideal for cheap and delicious Greek food and wine.

The hotel offers a business center to print (free) off maps and reservations. You can hook up to the Internet in the lobby, at an over-priced bar or in your room. There’s a nice pool to lounge in. The hotel’s rooftop restaurant is probably its best feature. The food is divine, but expect to pay a pretty penny for professionally cooked Greek meals. You can eat rabbit in heavenly sauce and overlook the Acropolis. Go at sunset.

The price is right at Royal Olympic. We paid about €80 a night, and that was during the high season. We’ve paid much more than that before for half the amenities and conveniences.

As your spring board to the rest of Greece, the hotel is a block from a half-dozen car rental places, including big-names like Avis and Sixt, even local. Feel free to shop around and haggle prices, but just know that they’re all about the same—either the result of simple economics or price-fixing. As your pot stop from overseas to airport to eventual Greek island(s), the hotel is only a €10 taxi ride to Piraeus port, the ferry hub to the Greek islands.

If there’s anything negative to say about the hotel, I suppose one could become annoyed by the tourists. As the crossroads of Athens, you’re more likely to meet an RV salesman from Richmond or a dentist from Phoenix than any dusty, storied visitors with anything interesting to say. But who said that traveling to Greece meant you staid entirely in Athens? Definitely recommend Royal Olympic as your connection to the rest of Greece, where you’re much more likely to discover the country’s real charm.

Room Tip: Even cheap rooms come with a balcony. Go cheap. You're not going to be spending much time there...

This hotel has a 5 star reputation but only one wing of the hotel has this desired excellence. If you are unable to pay the full price of a luxury suite this is not the place for you. The rooms are cramped and depending on your placement you will have a view of air conditioning units. The roof garden and restaurant are undeniably amazing. The view is spectacular from up there having a clear site of the acropolis. Unfortunately the only way to this restaurant is accessed by the luxury wing so you have to go down your elevator and up another to reach it. It isn't a problem just an inconvenience. We were looking for an excellent hotel and our standards were much too high for this hotel. Easily a 3 star hotel due to its service (our friend had a half bottle of nice wine taken from his room). Location however is key and the Olympic hotel is the closest to the plaka and acropolis. I do not recommend this hotel due to its high prices and terrible breakfasts.
