“Very good location to visit Athens”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in April 2013, we pick this place as it is in walking distance of all the places we wanted to visit during our stay in Athens.

The first night our room is a little bit disappointing and the safe was not working, we asked to change room and it happened the next day. The new room is almost like the previous room although roomier and newer, we are happy with that.

We enjoy the roof top restaurant, it has a super view to the Acropolis day and night, highly recommended to take great night pictures as the Acropolis is illuminated.

We took the breakfast at the hotel, the menu is quite dull for this kind of hotel, we did not have dinner there as there are tons of good restaurants in Plaka district at walking distance from the hotel.

Wifi is working fine, no problem seen, the wife was doing her "facebook" at the end of the day.

The staff at the hotel are very polite no problem there.

Overall, my wife and I found no negative things to say and we are recommending this hotel to our family for their next trip to Athens.

The hotel is in a great location. We walked to Plaka, Acropolis and Montasiraki. The rooftop restaurant has a great view for breakfast. Could have had better service as we had to find a table and move chairs to the balcony because restaurant was full. By the time we got settled, the food was cold. However, the view and the sun on the balcony made up for it. The pool was nice, although the drinks were pricey ( $25. euro for 2 drinks)The room was nice and the bed was comfortable. The bathtub was a little narrow but shower was good. Free wi-fi in room. Overall it was great experience. It was perfect for our first stay in Athens.

A luxury hotel within walking distance of several main attractions within Athens. The roof top restaurant provided an excellent view of the Acropolis with terrific night time viewing once all lit up along with the very good evening dining and drinks. The room was spacious, clean and a very comfortable bed. Morning buffet breakfast provided a good start to the day with decent coffee. The pool provides a nice spot for a refreshing dip or pool side refreshment.

Room Tip: Smoking rooms, pool view and city view are all available.

We stayed here for 2 nights in a deluxe room. The room is beautiful and large. The bed is AMAZING! best sleep ever, great mattress. The hotel is in a nice area of Athens, walking distance to the main sites we wanted to see- acropolis, temple of Zeus, olympic stadium, and was close to the bus stops for the citysightseeing hop on hop off bus tour. The breakfast was very good, great selection and the view was incredible. We had dinner twice in the hotel restaurant on the roof top which was delicious! Great fine dining food and service. We also ordered room service which was good. Overall a beautiful hotel.

We were in that Hotel for 4 nights altogether. Our itinerary was as follows: two nights in Athens at the Royal Olympic, then three nights in Santorini and then two nights in Athens in the Royal Olympic again.
On our arrival in Royal Olympic, we were upgraded to a Panorama room, instead of a Deluxe room, which we originally booked. That room was just amazing, the view was like a dream and we were over the moon. We had an amazing time there.
However, when we came back from Santorini, this time our room was an Executive room, they could not upgrade us this time as the Hotel was full. This would have been perfectly understandable if this room was a normal 5star standard, because this is what we booked, a five star Hotel for our entire stay in Athens, but to our total shock and disappointment, it was less than a 3star room. It was very small rather cramped, shabby looking and with a view of the other rooms of the Hotel. It was a shocking contrast from the very high standard of the Panorama room.
We requested a different room, but at that point the staff were overworked due to full occupancy, and had a different attitude for guests who booked an ordinary Executive room and we just did not think their manners were suited to a Five star Hotel staff.
We would not take a chance to stay in this Hotel next time, in case we get these kind of rooms again.
Otherwise the location of the Hotel is fantastic and the view from the rooftop restaurant is amazing. The breakfast was fine but repetative, all other common area of the Hotel is very good and very impressive.

Room Tip: Go for Panorama room, if possible. It will be a lifetime memory. We would not recommend an Executive...

With the Grand Bretagne out of the price range the Royal Olympic was our second choice but an excellent one. In all the basic needs of a good hotel: location (right in the centre), food (superb with great views from the restaurnt but pricey), rooms (very good but we did pick the more expensive ones don't go for the basic option) and service (faultless) the Royal Olympic is highly recommended. Some tips staying in Athens: Trips- we had booked three from the UK two of which were cancelled when we arrived due to 'weather' (trip to the islands) and not enough people (Delphi). We improvised and the hotel provided a private car and driver for Delphi ( very good well worth the trip) and spent more time on our own going round the city on foot. The third uncancelled trip to the Acropolis was as expected a must. A treat? Dinner at the Grand Bretagne, no need to book in these recessionary times and food superb..as was the price......
