Our first "retirement" vacation started off in Athens at the St. George, beautifully located on Lycabettus Hill, Kolonaki District, a very upscale area with great shops, many outdoor restaurants (pricy) and a steep walk back to the hotel....good for your personal fitness. Overall the staff were absolutely great from reception on but for one problem referenced below. When I struggled with the computer in the bar area help was available immediately. Help with touris information was always available. Taxis arrived on time with hotel assistance ready at the go.

The view at breakfast (included with our reservation) of the Acropolis was absolutely a top 3 highlite of our entire Greek holiday. The buffet is a standard European, slightly upscale breakfast. The pool area on the roof is fine (no hot spa) with limited views of the Acropolis.

Don't accept a 5th floor room if a party/celebration/wedding is planned on th 6th floor during your stay. While we were there a "celebration of the full moon" started at midnite and didn't end until 4:00 a.m. Unfortunately we celebrated with them and got no sleep. Little concern but a meek apology from the front lobby staff in the morning.

We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant as we found the Plaka area had far more character, fabulous restaurants, and lots of Greek energy. Don't miss it...and if you want an even better view of the Acropolis and Athens at night take the tramway/funiculaire, a very short walk near the hotel to the top of Lycabettus Hill. With another night in Athens we would have had dinner there, instead having a drink overlooking the city during sunset was another fabulous moment in Athens.

Overall our stay at the St. George Lycabettus was a great start to our 16 day visit to Athens and the Islands.

Okay, so the walls were a bit thin, the room was a bit small, and I really hate double beds that are really two singles pushed together ... but who cares when you get such a spectacular view from your room??!!

I loved this hotel because the view of the Acropolis and the rest of the city was incredible. During the day it's great, but at night when the Acropolis is lit up, it's hard to take your eyes off it! We stayed in room 507.

A week earlier I stayed in a room without a view at the same hotel and I still liked it. It was modern and I especially liked the multi-jet shower! Funnily enough there was a real double bed in that room ... so it seems not all rooms just have two singles pushed together

We stayed at the St. George last summer for 2 nights. The temperature in Athens was about 110 F. Our air conditioning was a bit spotty, but we got by. We befriended a young couple who was there on their honeymoon. Their air conditioning was broken for their entire stay. The management was not at all helpful. The hotel is quite out of the way. It's a pretty spot, but we had trouble finding cabs to take us back up the hill to the hotel. And when it's 110 F it's not a fun climb!

We arrived around noon on Sept 16, 2006. We ask to be moved due to the location of the room. We were supposed to have a view of the Acropolis but had a wall view instead. The fun really got going when we returned from dinner and found we were right under the ballroom and wedding party room. The music was unbearable until 3:am. We asked to be moved and were told there was no room. This went on for 3 nights and the hotel never made an attempt to accomadate us in anyway. I did email the manager on our return. He said he was sorry and offered us a free stay on our next visit. I would have changed hotels but had paid prior through our travel agent. This could be a nice hotel just don't complain about anything, and don't stay in room# 525.
