staff were super extra helpful and polite - God bless them! view from the 7th floor is unique especially at sunset - a MUST for anyone staying at the hotel. Hotel was stylish and luxe, rooms were very roomy, all in all the hotel is really really great, and with the prices we got, 100% value for money.

Dreadful check-in experience, Natalia looked over my head to greet a guest (uniformed pilot!) behind me, door key card wouldn't work, back to desk, room looked out on a lovely orange building crane, back to desk. Incredibly rude receptionist Alexandra (I saw her give one guest a sneering head to toe look, you NEVER do that in any service position) told me off for asking for a better view, lied that the reservation was for a Lycabettus View (all rooms were described as 'external' no view is specified) and when I explained I would like to take some photos for my website acidly remarked 'You can photograph from the breakfast'. The tiny room with Acroplis view I eventually got was hilarious, my partner is a hotel architect and he visited me, we had a great laugh when we saw the 'five star deluxe' rating behind the door. There is a large bed with 20cm gap to get to the balcony, ancient wooden furniture, no visible free sockets, all the lights and doors are crooked. The bathroom is a hotch-potch of half working renovations - everything from dangling crystals supporting the loo roll to a 1970's plastic nightmare that once was a 'power shower' and now only works from the hand held nozzle with all the power of a dribbling baby. It took 30 minutes to get wet all over. Rooftop swimming pool is tiny and claustrophobic with very little room around it, the photos on the website must win the gold award for creative ability. Location is immensely unsuitable for any guest who is not fit, you will not be walking anywhere as it clings to the side of vertiginous stairways and dangerous streets. My calf muscles still ache from the walk home. Skip the overpriced breakfast (22euro) and eat with the posh locals in Da Capo cafe in Kolonaki, lovely smoked salmon brioche and orange juice. Or better still stay at one of the excellent four star hotels in Athens that walk all over the St George Lycabettus for value and service. I paid 127 euro, could have had two nights for that at another hotel and not had the feeling that I couldn't wait to get out of the place.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere - rooms with Acropolis view are very hot and small, rooms with Lycabettus view face a...

Aside from the top-notch chef of the restaurant (the food is exceptionally good with quite the presentation) on top of this hotel, with absolutely astounding views of Athens including the Acropolis (really nice at night,) the staff here would be very, very hard to beat. They went above and beyond the normally expected. This became evident when Air France failed to deliver my luggage upon arrival at the Athens Airport. Arriving hot, tired, and a bit hostile to the hotel, after a three hour ordeal to register my lack of luggage with Air France, Michael and Chris went into action and made my situation a lot less painful. Whatever I needed, Chris had the uncanny ability to find it and it was usually found in the area around the hotel. (I did finally receive my luggage two hours before leaving this hotel two nights later.) This hotel is located in a nice residential area so lots to do even around this area and totally safe for an individual to just wonder around. My room was quite comfortable and nice and I could see the Acropolis while sitting on my balcony, but who is in the room much when in Athens? This is a family owned hotel and everyone seemed to take great pride in working here and offering every assistance anyone could possibly need. It is a rarity to find this sort of atmosphere in the big chain hotels. My next trip to Athens will be headquartered right at the Saint George because I know whatever the problem, this staff will take care of it.

What a view. On top of the mountain, on top of Kolonaki just minutes away from the great bar and exclusive shopping area. Having a breakfast on top of the mountain when the Acropolis is standing proudly in front of you is a must have experience. Exciting. The rooms are great the crowd is of the elite of Athenes. If you have the budget or you find the right deal, just go for it. You will not be sorry.

I had a great time at Saint George Lycabettus. Firstly, its position of top of a hill in a leafy residential area of Athens means that this place affords breathtaking views over the city (including the Acropolis) and it feels like it is slightly removed from the tourist path. The restaurant (with its amazing views) and the rooftop pool and bar make this a great place to relax after a day of sightseeing. This is also a great destination for a romantic getaway. The pool bar is way overpriced and the service at the restaurant was quite robotic, but beyond these points I would reccomend this hotel for your stay in Athens.

Room Tip: Ask for a non smoking room.

This hotel was described to us as the best hotel in Athens.

Wow. Really? There are Hiltons and Marriotts in Athens, I have to believe they were better than this.

The hotel wasn't bad per se, but for the rate I was paying, I expected better.

On the plus side:

- The neighborhood it was in was a safe residential one, on the Lycabettus hill east of the main commercial area. The neighborhood was generally quiet.
- It was walking distance to tourist sites, although a long walk, and up quite a steep hill on the way back.
- The included buffet breakfast was pretty good although not top notch.
- The view from the restaurant is excellent, including the Parthenon.
- If you get a room on the right side, you also get the excellent view.
- The staff was very helpful in setting up the reservation by email.

The minuses:

- There was a wedding reception on a Sunday night. The party music started after midnight in the restaurant right above our room.
- The decor is dated. Really dated.
- The pool was hard to find on the rooftop, and cramped. The entire deck was a smoking area, so not really comfortable for dedicated non-smokers. No one at the pool bar asked if I wanted a drink or snack.
- The spa was sad. I stopped in to see what exercise equipment they had. It was in a poorly ventilated room in the basement and included one stationary bike and one treadmill, which looked like they had been around for a while.
