The hotel owns not just the obvious luxury in its decorative details in the lobby and its rooms which easily make it stand out from all other hotels in Athens, but also an interesting history of 140 years which matches the identity of the historical capital of the western culture. (Read the hotel magazine in your room to add value of your host.) The environment went too well with the tourists' experience as a whole like a package. The staff is fantastically professional: I was literally welcomed and served politely and patiently, seamlessly followed by the valet parking staff, then the courteous front desk, helpful porters and, most surprisingly, a butler, who introduced himself and left his card for all-time summons.
The rooms are all furnished elegantly in classical European style, rich in taste, with a crystal chandelier in each of its suites. The size is limited by its the architectural structure I guess, but the careful renovation definitely covers well its real age. The shortcoming is the lack of view to the Acropolis in the suites, nor the Syntagma Square which provides a more spacious view than the interior courtyard.
The Roof Garden is marvelous with its panoramic view of the city from the Acropolis, the old Olympic Stadium, far reaching the highest hilltop named Lycavittos. The breakfast includes a selection of Greek desserts which they serve during fasting times, and the restaurant in the evening was crowded with decent visitors, with a romantic atmosphere with the glamorously spotlit Acropolis in the background. Food is great from the bread platter.
Being the most luxurious landmark in the city close to a lot of attractions, the hotel naturally attracts also some nuisance. Don't loss your attention at the lobby on your properties! My friend spotted a pickpocket at the lobby during our check-in.
