“Amazing hotel:pure bliss and luxury! But expensive extras...”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

I stayed at this hotel for 6 nights with my family this past December/January. We had an amazing stay at this hotel, and found the rooms to be amazing and functional and the staff to be extremely helpful.

Location and Restaurants : The location of this hotel is IDEAL: You can walk to the "Plaka" and many other important sights in Athens, there are great shops and restaurants around the corner....including the big department store "Attica" as well as luxury boutiques such as Hermés, Louis Vuitton etc. There are also great cafes in the square in front of the hotel....a great place to have lunch and breakfast. The hotel restaurants and room service are way over priced and not worth it.

The Rooms: The rooms were traditional and modern at the same time. The decor was very old Italian style, with rich colors and antiques. The bathrooms were also very functional and big, allowing you lots of room to get ready. The only issue we had with one of our two connecting rooms was the temperature.....the heating was too much and we could not seem to control the temperature. But overall the rooms were amazing.

The Staff: The staff was INCREDIBLE. We found the concierge to be amazing, a special thanks to "Apostolos", who helped us so much and also printed out our boarding passes and sent them to our room for our flight to Crete.

The Spa/Gym/Pool: I had a few spa treatments at the hotel spa, and although the treatments were amazing and the staff was great, they were over priced compared to what I've paid for similar treatments in similar hotels all over Europe. The pool and spa area was nice, would have been good to have more options in the men's locker room opposed to just co-ed spa choices. The gym was enough, but I was expecting more for such an amazing hotel.

Overall we had an amazing stay at this hotel and I recommend it to everyone and anyone visiting Athens! You will have a delightful and restful stay in Athens!

We were there for 6 nights with my wife and this place is the best of the best. Service outstanding. Location fantastic and you can walk everywhere...right in the centre. You can walk to all the sights andnold town and all the restaurants.
The hotel itself is faultless all be it expensive it is worth it
Try eating at the old tavern of psaras in the old town.good food and service appears brisk but if you talk to them they transform and interact. We ate there 3 times. Good food selection and try the specials. Also for a real Greek experience in small family restaurant try to kafeneio in the old town a real experience. Menu limited but very friendly and a very acceptable rose carafe of wine cost nothing
However going back to the hotel it is the best of the best

Room Tip: Get view of acropolis and ask for balcony if you can

I had a dream. Staying at Athens most exclusive hotel! Finally, last June I had the chance to be one of the Grand Bretagne guests in lovely Athens. I must say I have a magic attachment to Greece (maybe I was born in Greece in one of my previous lives) and finally, on my eight trip, I reached Grand Bretagne. It was an unique experience and I recommend to all those that had a dream like that to do not hesitate and book a room there. Located in the emblematic Syntagma Square, in the heart of old Athens, Grand Bretagne will not disappoint your dreams. Having breakfast overlooking Acropolis complex is priceless. Rush and go! You'll love it!

Room Tip: A room facing Syntagma and the old Acropolis is a must!

There isn't a need to write much about Hotel Grande Bretagne. Its a luxurious hotel valued worldwide and the location is unbeatable. If someone is willing to stay in the center, just across the Greek parliament and don't care about the high prices then this hotel would be the only option. Rooms are smaller than I would expect but impeccable. A must visit in Athens.

I was taken here as a surprise birthday long weekend. The hotel is old style elegance and beautiful. When they knew it was my birthday they upgraded us to the 7th floor which has butler service and presented me with a beautiful birthday cake when we got back from a day exploring which was lovely. The hotel is in a perfect location to explore such a great city and has fantastic views on the roof terrace and at breakfast. Talking of which it is an excellent breakfast ! Which keeps you going all day! The last thing to mention is the spa in the hotel, it is of a very high standard with a good pool, a great range of saunas, steam rooms etc which is perfect after a day of sight seeing.
The only complaint is wifi is only free in the lobby. All hotels should have this for free every where, to charge to use it in the room in this day and age is odd... And not sure how they can warrant it. Never the less its a highly recommended hotel for me.

Room Tip: 7th floor luxury.....

Impressive. As wth all Luxury Collection european hotels, the Grande Bretagne had all the bells and whistles.

We stayed during the Greek riots; and the professionalism of the staff was exceptional. They ensured we knew what was happening at any given time, kept us safe and were attentive to any specific needs.

The rooftop restaraunt is EXCEPTIONAL (see pics). The food is amazing, but the sunset view of the acropolis, mountains and skyline of Athens is just breathtaking.

We would never think to stay anywhere else if we have the opportunity to return to Athens again in the future.
