Owner description: The Benaki Museum was founded in 1930 by Antonis Benakis and presents the historical and cultural development of the Greek nation. Through its extensive collections that cover several different cultural fields –from the age of Roman domination to the medieval Byzantine period and from the fall of Constantinople to the struggle for Greek independence in 1821- the Benaki Museum is perhaps the sole instance of a complex structure within the broader network of museum foundations in Greece.

The Benaki is a lovely Museum. The way the artifacts are presented makes for a beautiful flow and presentation. A beautiful addition to any trip.

The Benaki offers a gentle, immersive experience of the history of Greece. Obviously there is a lot of interest in the Pre-history to Byzantine stuff on the first floor but its worth wandering upwards to get a tremendous insight in to beauty in the lives of everyday Greeks through the ages. We almost literally had the place to ourselves on a Saturday night in April- I'm sad for Greeks that there are fewer tourists in Greece but it was great for us!

A very interesting private collection. Requires a good 3-4 hours to go through the entire place. The food in the Benaki Museum is quite excellent as well.
