Owner description: The Benaki Museum was founded in 1930 by Antonis Benakis and presents the historical and cultural development of the Greek nation. Through its extensive collections that cover several different cultural fields –from the age of Roman domination to the medieval Byzantine period and from the fall of Constantinople to the struggle for Greek independence in 1821- the Benaki Museum is perhaps the sole instance of a complex structure within the broader network of museum foundations in Greece.

“Private collection”

A very interesting private collection. Requires a good 3-4 hours to go through the entire place. The food in the Benaki Museum is quite excellent as well.

“Interesting collection in a lovely building”

One of the highlights of a trip to Athens. Extensive collection, but very accessible. The current Manos photograph exhibition is a delight. Excellent restaurant/café too.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013

this fantastic and very rich museum, is a must see to those who appreciate and admire Greek and world history and culture, and tradition.
we were amazed from the vast collections of artifacts from the various historical and prehistorical eras of this great civilization .
don't miss this jewel , but prepare your comfort shoes set, and spare some time for the visit, it deserves .

“A lot of stuff you can see on google images”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2013

The museum has a lot of material but nothing really interesting to say about them. I Think it could be much more interesting if they provided some more insight.
