Owner description: The Benaki Museum was founded in 1930 by Antonis Benakis and presents the historical and cultural development of the Greek nation. Through its extensive collections that cover several different cultural fields –from the age of Roman domination to the medieval Byzantine period and from the fall of Constantinople to the struggle for Greek independence in 1821- the Benaki Museum is perhaps the sole instance of a complex structure within the broader network of museum foundations in Greece.

Beautiful old mansion nicely adapted.Arty rather than archaelogical.Super restaurant on the roof!which has a fine view accross the National Gardens. There are other museums in the area, and it is easily walked to fron Sytagma Square. The museum gives the impression of belonging to a private collectorEntry fee cost reasonable, nice shop area.

This museum caters to everyone's interest. It starts with ancient artifacts and moves all the way up to the war of independence. There is an excellent section devoted to Byzantine Icons, and another gallery wtih some very interesting costumes on display. Of all the museums we visited in Athens, this one was the one that was the most interesting.

Give this at least 2 hours, and consider stopping for coffee at the little cafe!

This is a lovely museum with a very nice cafe which opens out to the open air. The museum has wonderful exhibits–in particular the gold jewellery which is breathtaking. But there are huge amounts of other things to see. Not to be missed if you're visiting Athens

This is a museam one should visit during his/her stay in Athens. The museam is located in the center of Athens, so it is very easily accessible. The building itseld is really impressive and there many interesting exhibitions any time one can see. The shop inside is really good. At the end, there is also a wonderful roofgarden, from where you can enjoy your drink and Athens view at the same time.

Good museum to visit though I preferred others in Athen such as NAtional Archeological Museum. Still, a good place to spend an afternoon....worth the visit.
