Unlike the modern Acropolis Museum, here in the National, you will see the real thing. An amazing collection of sculptures, bronzes and vases. Of course dont forget the Schliemann gold treasure. What ever he might have done wring in digging right through Troy he made up for it by presenting the entire Agamemnon gold horde to the Greek government. Please go and see the museum, it deserves it although you can see that a lot of funds now go to the Acropolis museum and perhaps this museum suffers a bit from it.

Most tourists who visit Athens do the Acropolis and the new Acropolis museum and forget that the real glorious collection of Greek antiquities are to be found in this totally iconic (and thank God not trendy) museum. I would say in all sincerity that after the museum of Cairo this is the most magnificent museum i have ever been. A must-do!

The golden treasures from Mycenae were more amazing than I could have imagined, and the marble sculpture galleries were jam-packed with treasures. A great record of a beauty-filled culture.

A fabulous museum probably one of the best of its kind on this subject, in the world. If you're into history, Greek mythology and art such as sculptures this is the place to be. Brilliant.

This is in the area more north of central athens, but the artifacts inside are certainly worth the trek. Chronologically displayed mostly, it is a journey through ancient greek art. Highly recommended
