I've been visiting this museum since I was a young man. The museum holds some of the best artifacts and artworks from the Classical Age of Greece. Unfortunately the exhibits are poorly presented and the staff look like they've just walked in from the street. They're shocking.

Thank Steve M

The importance of the museum cannot be disputed. The sheer amount of ancient treasures makes it an absolute must. The importance of the exhibits is unquestionable. An art lover could easily spend half a day in the museum.
Now, the surroundings is another - sad -story. And the museum itself is a bit neglected ( with the exception of the excellent Antikytheron shipwreck exhibition). Well, as they say don't judge the book by the cover, go ahead and read it.

The exhibits are amazing, and beautifully presented.
The "first calculator" room is very interesting for almost everyone. Includes many, many artifacts from the shipwreck where the "calculator" was found.
If you go to Santorini, and make the effort to get to the ancient site of Akritori, then in this museum, you will see most of what has been found in Akritori. Absolutely fascinating!
