Owner description: The majestic ruins of an ancient Greek building, known for its dignified white marble columns and perfect sense of proportion.

Parthenon is for me the best evidence of skills of the ancient Greeks. The most of it has been destroyed during the past centuries, but it has such unique architecture that the missing parts and the metal constructions didn't bother me at all. It's a MUST to see while you're in Athens, so don't hesitate and go admire it by yourself! (The entrance fee was 12€ in 2012, but it's open to public free of charge during some national holidays and every Sunday from November 1st until March 31st).

This is something you HAVE to do while in Greece. Not only do you get to observe something that has withstood the trials of time, but you have an amazing view of Athens from there. You should definitely go either early morning or later in the afternoon since it does get crowded and hot. :)

A must see! The sense of how old it is gives you a feeling of awe. Plus, the view of Athens is breathtaking.

You know what - there's little that needs to be said.

If you've come to Athens, or you're thinking of going to Athens, there was only one reason to do that.

The Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Caryatids. Glorious.

It almost doesn't matter how much of them are real, or re-casts, or uncertain copies. They take you to another place, another time, another perspective on life.

That's why you came.

Great views and impressive structures, but restoration is definitely a slow process so expect cranes and scaffolding. Go early before the crowds arrive. I think the 12 euro acropoli ticket is good value and gets you into five other sites.
