“Gives you a feel of everyday life in Ancient Greece”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

If you're going to the Parthenon (which if you're thinking of going here I'm guessing you will be) then you can get into the Agora area on the same ticket, if not then it's 4 euros for a 2 day ticket.

It's nice to just amble around and think about what it must have been like 3000 years ago (!) and then when you get 'ruined out' you can wander off and find a cafe, knowing that you can come back later.

I found it more enjoyable than the Parthenon as it was much less crowded; you can get right up close to everything; and it's not just all about the restoration work.

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

Given the stunning, world-changing contributions to world culture that are connected to the Agora (philosophy, democracy, religion, public administration, and so on), the site was a disappointment, particularly when compared with the Parthenon.

Essentially, it's a ramshackle collection of uncared-for remains, presented without any sense of story, and without any real attempt at curation.

With a bit of thought and imagination, great things could be done with the Agora. It's disappointing that so little has been done.

I'm giving the Agora three stars because it's so historically important, and because it contains the lovely Temple of Hephaestus. Just expect to be disappointed by the rest of it.

“Walking in the steps Socraties”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

We had a little trouble getting to the Ancient Agora as out cab driver dropped us at the Roman Agora which is near by. In the site there is a nice small museum in a reconstucted stoa and ruins of the city. I was amazed at the scale of these bulidings from 6 th century BC

“Ancient Agora”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

What a great place to wander! It isn't had to imagine what this ancient marketplace was like. The paths are good as is the signage at major sites. You need a long time to do it justice. There is MUCH to see.
