Lots of cranes about around the Parthenon, and very busy and hot and yet STILL worth it!! Hadn't been here since I was 10 (29 years ago) and was great to see it again with adult eyes.

We were a bit concerned about taking the walk up to the Acropolis, especially since it was very hot. However, we enjoyed the walk (we have children aged 5 and 7) and the time was well spent. We did not spend a ton of time at the Acropolis, but enjoyed our time and we have many memories. There were many people there, so be ready to deal with crowds, especially during the summer holidays.

It was not overly crowded for us as we went at 1:00, probably the hottest part of the day. It was well wort it. There is very little shade but there is a drinking fountain at the top. The views from the top are spectacular and it so impressive to see what the ancient Greeks were capable of.

Of course this is an amazing site to see, but i our opinion, there were so many missed opportunities. There is so little historical information about it on old signs, and no guides around to hire. With greater than 40% unemployment, why are there not many accredited guides available to hire?? Why are there 4 lonely workers trying to repair - restore - rebuild the acropolis. Surely to god there are a few more greek people who could be working at this site. SO many missed opportunities to make this a much better experience for visitors like us.

Went to Athens on a business trip last November. I suppose many just visit Greece in summer for the sea so that in winter months there are not many tourists, the same on Acropolis. In fact I feel that it's the best season to visit the famous historic site of Athens. Greece has great weather so in November the temperature holds up at 15 to 20 degrees. The acropolis looked very tall above from the hillfoot, but it turned out to be just a few steps to reach the major site. The greatest thing is that you can take great photos without too many people around. From the Parthenon you can have great views of the city below especially when the white houses glitter gold in sunset hours. Like some people said the place is in ruins, but it's also of great historic and archetectural interest. Definitely a must-visit in Athens. I heard that the new Acropolis Museum near the site is magnificent. Passed the museum one day and saw that it's a very sleek modern building. Shame that I didn't have time for it, but locals say it's a must-visit too!
