“Like the Greek economy, it lay in ruins”
Reviewed July 15, 2014

Of course this is an amazing site to see, but i our opinion, there were so many missed opportunities. There is so little historical information about it on old signs, and no guides around to hire. With greater than 40% unemployment, why are there not many accredited guides available to hire?? Why are there 4 lonely workers trying to repair - restore - rebuild the acropolis. Surely to god there are a few more greek people who could be working at this site. SO many missed opportunities to make this a much better experience for visitors like us.

“Lucky to be there in the down season”
Reviewed July 15, 2014

Went to Athens on a business trip last November. I suppose many just visit Greece in summer for the sea so that in winter months there are not many tourists, the same on Acropolis. In fact I feel that it's the best season to visit the famous historic site of Athens. Greece has great weather so in November the temperature holds up at 15 to 20 degrees. The acropolis looked very tall above from the hillfoot, but it turned out to be just a few steps to reach the major site. The greatest thing is that you can take great photos without too many people around. From the Parthenon you can have great views of the city below especially when the white houses glitter gold in sunset hours. Like some people said the place is in ruins, but it's also of great historic and archetectural interest. Definitely a must-visit in Athens. I heard that the new Acropolis Museum near the site is magnificent. Passed the museum one day and saw that it's a very sleek modern building. Shame that I didn't have time for it, but locals say it's a must-visit too!

“Worth the walk”
Reviewed July 14, 2014

Beautiful area. Well worth the walk if you can make it. One of my daughters has very bad knees and couldn't make it up all the steps and over the uneven ground. Not for anyone with handicap. Breathtaking views and amazing site.

“Beware the crowds”
Reviewed July 14, 2014

We enjoyed the start of our visit walking around one of the slopes, but when we got to the top not so much. Every square inch was jam packed with people. It was also in the upper 90s and much of the area is surrounded in scaffolding. I would highly recommend getting there at opening to avoid the heat and crowds.
