Owner description: The most famous site in all of Athens, this large hill lies in the center of the city and contains a cluster of ancient ruins.

Firstly make sure you buy the Acropolis joint ticket for 12 euros as it covers entrance to seven different sites. We entered by the south slope which was a gentle climb through ruins and two theatres. Then we proceeded up to the gates of the Acropolis where the views of Athens are outstanding. Altogether something not to be missed if you are visiting Athens.

I cannot give a good detailed review of any particulars around this site, as my visit there was well over 10 years ago, but in all my travels, the Acropolis is definitely one of those places that one MUST see if you go to Athens. The history alone can be palpably felt in the stones. A truly soul touching event to see this place first hand. Do NOT MISS!!

Even if you are not planning to visit it, it is impossible not to see from a far distance. This place was built on the top of a hill and most of the interesting sights in Athens surrounds it. It is a huge complex of temples, monuments and walls from ancient times. Of course there is a lot of ruins that you have to let your imagination (and the signboards) tell you what it is supposed to be there before collapse, but the remaining buildings are amazing.

Go there, learn more about the place, enjoy the view and then go to the Acropolis Museum to really understand the history behind it.

The lights make it even more beautiful at night.

The Acropolis is an amazing historical experience that can't be missed if you are anywhere around Athens, Greece! There are about 20 major archaeological remains (Old Temple of Athena,Temple of Athena Nike, Theatre of Dionysus Eleuthereus, Odeon of Herodes Atticus, etc...) with the Parthenon being the most well known. Very impressive site that is truly an engineering marvel! Don't miss it!

Well worth the effort. It is a fair bit of walking and stairs climbing, so better schedule it earlier in the day when one is not too tired. The admission fee is a bit steep but most of it goes to the restoration costs. It is an amazing experience.
