Owner description: The most famous site in all of Athens, this large hill lies in the center of the city and contains a cluster of ancient ruins.

I was disappointed with the amount of construction equipment throughout all the ruins. It took quite a while and a keen eye to try and figure out how to get a picture that did not include a crane or scaffolding. I understand things need to be done there but do it with some regard to the fact that it is a tourist site as well as a historical monument needing preservation.

Start at the south gate, this avoids the cruise tours. Wear sensible shoes. Go as early in the day as you can. Take water .

A visit to the Acropolis is indeed worthwhile. Even with all the tourists, it is still an awe filled experience.

The support infrastructure (ticket office etc.) is somewhat unruly so don't expect strict and well managed queues. It's all quite casual but shouldn't detract from the experience for more than a few minutes.

The Acropolis is under repair in parts but this is being completed fairly harmoniously to the visiting tourist. Wear rubber soled trainers or shoes as there are lots of uneven surfaces to navigate.

We'd been told about the steep climb up to the Acropolis from the car/bus park but were happily surprised that in fact, the climb was nowhere near as arduous as anticipated.

We visited on a hot day and so would suggest lots of water and definitely a hat/cap for any visitor.

A great experience and quite humbling, given the history of the site.
