I have not stayed in the Plaka Hotel for some years. HOWEVER, I'm thinking of returning so I was checking out the website for prices & new reviews. What I found convinces me that I will stay there again, meaning not much has changed & in this case, that's a good thing.
I'm just going to repeat & reinforce the views of most of the others.
1) It is right in the Plaka (marketplace/shopping area)
2) Tons of good restaurants very nearby
3) Very close to the Acropolis
4)The rooftop terrace is great for relaxing, having snacks & listening to any concerts that may be going on in the Herodeon Theatre, which is nearby on the southern slope of the Acropolis. On there website, they say it is "Breathtaking" view & it is!
5) It's moderately priced
6) I believe it includes a hot buffet breakfast

Room Tip: If you can splurge for one w/ the Acropolis view, get it. If you can't, enjoy the rooftop terrace's view.

Stayed here when we arrived in Athens 2 nights prior to the start of our tour of the Peloponnese. Also stayed upon our return for another 3 nights. Was on vacation with our 12 year old son and 15 year old daughter. Staff was so helpful with directions, recommendations. Views couldn't be beat! Rooms are small but the views of the acropolis plus the location (walking distance to everything!!!) made up for it. We had the interlocking family room first time we stayed and rooms across from one another the return end.

The welcome bottle of wine was a nice touch. Several times we grabbed takeout Gyros and or olives and had a nice snack and drinks on the roof top garden. It was a nice way to unwind in between seeing the sights.

Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Family suite has a side view from the balcony of the acropolis. Our room on the 3rd floor had a spectacular view of the acropolis. First thing we saw in the morning and last thing at night, but room was small.

pros: great location a walk to the major ancient sites. a walk from the subway from the airport. very pleasant breakfast room. roving travel consultant gave helpful advice on planning siteseeing for the day.

cons: noisy room on lower floor (by US standards). unhelpful/unconcerned desk staff when outgoing flight cancelled and needed to make new arrangements "you can go to the airport"

We initially stayed at the Plaka Hotel (January 2014) for one night before departing on a 4 day tour. We arrived with my wife having badly sprained her ankle in Chania and the staff couldn't do enough to help us, even to the point of locating a crutch to assist her and directing us to a pharmacy that was open that day. After returning from our tour we had 10 of the most wonderful days of our life and staying at the Plaka Hotel was part of that experience. The hotel is in the perfect location with tourist shops, tavernas and classy shops all nearby. To be able to walk to historic places such as the Acropolis and Agora was just heaven as you walked through the ancient parts of Athens. The restaurant was open until 5.30pm with free tea, coffee and magnificent greek biscuits. The staff at the hotel are outstanding and they receive our highest praise as they were always helpful and friendly. They were also constantly cleaning which was fantastic. Next door to the hotel was a mini mart (please say hi to them for us) where we regularly stocked up with water, biscuits and Mythos beer. My wife, daughter and I still talk about our trip and our Plaka Hotel experience and if we make it back to Athens will definitely stay there as well as recommending it to any of our friends here in Australia. Best choice because:
1. Excellent location. Its very close to the historic center, about 2-3 blocks from the principal plaza, half block from the hermes st which is full of the best shopping stores, and its very close to the Parthenon (u have a beautiful view from the rooftop).

2. Great hospitality.

3. You have free tea, coffee, water and cookies all day!

4. Great breakfast. Not only he food is very tasty but also you have it available at anytime at the morning

5. Comfortable rooms. They are a little bit small but thats all you need.

6. Excellent price!
