“Pleasure.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

I lived in Athens and often had family and friends come and stay in this hotel.
They found the staff very friendly and the rooms comfortable. The location is ideal and central to the Acropolis and Plaka. Food is also good. I now hope to return with friends to visit and i wld certainly stay here again.

DH & I stayed 2 nights at Hotel Plaka. Clean & tidy, so no complaints. The neighborhood was just what we wanted & expected - a good mix of tourists & locals. We wandered & walked & saw all the bucket-list sites. We only took a taxi once. I thought it was funny that the driver didn't know where Hadrian's Arch was located. Good thing DH was smart enough to show him the map! haha

As everyone says, the view from the terrace is outstanding. The drinks weren't over-priced, either, but they don't serve food up there. I don't understand why. We did have one night when a family with 3 children were there, which distracted from the atmosphere a bit. The next night, we purchased Fix beer (1 euro) at the mini-market next door & I took that up. DH ordered a drink & the bar tender brought me a glass for my beer. she said if people saw it they would want one & she didn't carry them! She was very polite about it. We also moved on the back side of the terrace to a table & chairs where it was nice & quiet. Most people sit in front of the bar where they have sofas placed.

The elevator is only large enough for 2 people & their bags or 4 people without bags - unless you really like each other! We were only on the 5th floor but with all the walking up & down hills in Athens, DH didn't want to use them. I did a couple of times when I was alone.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for choosing our hotel for your short stay in Athens. I am glad that you had enjoyed the outstanding view of the Acropolis from our roof terrace. As you had experience yourself the bar is inexpensive and due to the local law it is not allow to clients to bring their own drinks when the bar is operating. Thank you again.
Best regards

Excellent location; central to everything. The room was comfortable but very small for two people, and the bathroom was extremely small. Breakfast was excellent! The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, good value for the money.

We booked into this hotel for a 4 night stay in the Athens area. We had stayed in this hotel on previous trips and liked the location and service but last time we had problems with our room being too noisy due to the location near the Plaka. I requested a quite room in my reservation and the hotel accommodated us. The hotel has been updated since we stayed last and its quite nice, comfortable beds and modern bathroom. The staff is very friendly and EVA is particularly helpful in attending to your needs and travel arrangements. The breakfast is very good and the food selection and quality are above average. The location of the hotel is very good for sightseeing and walking. I would stay in this hotel again.

Room Tip: Request a quite room

Good location, normal prices, good service. We booked this hotel because of its reviews and it was a good choice. Walking distance to shopping and archeological sites. Hotel will be needing some renovation soon, but it is a pretty good choice for now.

The Plaka Hotel is definitely a good hotel with a fantastic view of the Arcopolis. It is about 45 min away from the airport (40-45 Euro taxi ride) and is in the heart of Athens. Rooms are very neat and clean and the free breakfast was very good. The rooftop is a must since it will allow you to view the Arcopolis (a 5 minute walk away) up cloe and personal.

It has all been said before, but to reiterate the Plaka Hotel is a 3 star hotel with some unusual benefits. First there are no surprises. The rooms are clean, the bathrooms are modern and the beds are not too soft or too hard (Goldilocks would be fine here!). The hotel is situated on the western edge of Plaka about 2 blocks from Monastiraki (metro station) so if you are loaded down with a lot of luggage you can easily get to and from the airport or port by the subway.

We requested and received a room with an unobstructed view of the Acropolis, but everyone has a similar view from the rooftop patio bar. The breakfast buffet is varied and always includes some warm dishes (e.g. eggs). A nice touch is the concierge at breakfast who is more than eager to provide you with all sorts of free information and assistance for your desired activity.

Are there any downsides you ask? Well, only the usual culprits, the elevators are small, as are the bathrooms and a lot of people smoke. Accept that you are on the Mediterranean having an experience that is unlike any you could have at home and don't complain; instead smile and have a shot of Ouzo!

Room Tip: the extra you might pay for a room with a view of the Acropolis will be worth it when you think back...
