“Good hotel, GREAT location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2008

We stayed at the Plaka hotel for two nights after our arrival in Athens on May 4th. As we had heard, the location was absolutely fantastic. It is right in the heart of the Plaka, very close to all the sights.

It had been recommended to us to use Athens as a jumping-off point for the rest of Greece, and that virtually everything of interest in Athens can be seen in a day or two. This was true. And because we had chosen the Plaka Hotel, it was very easy for us to walk to all the interesting sights. I cannot overstate the convenience of the location.

Breakfast was very good! One side dish that is not on the menu is the second-hand smoke that a person is subjected to in any indoor space in Greece. This took quite a bit of getting used to. However, we discovered that the windows in the breakfast room opened up to allow us some fresher air to breathe. This will not likely be an option in the heat of the summer. Does EVERYONE in Greece light up a cigarette the second they are done eating? And the majority of the guest in the hotel were NOT Greek, but Aussies, Kiwis, or other Europeans. Anyway....there was toasts, croissants, eggs, meat, cheese, yogurt/honey (yum!), cereals, etc etc etc. Pretty much anything you could want for breakfast.

Our room had a nice sized bathroom with a tub. I've read about the tiny bathrooms, but ours was not. (Room 408) The beds are hard. My back was sore after two nights, but I am used to a soft mattress.

The front desk clerk was surly as previously reviewed by others. He just didn't have any customer-service skills, poor guy. I tried to chat him up and get him to crack a smile by being EXTRA nice, and he did manage to soften a bit. But don't be looking for any help from him for much of anything.

Overall, we were very pleased with the Plaka. Like I mentioned, we LOVED the location, and the rest was very acceptable as well.

We had a great stay at the Plaka. We were on the 6th floor at the side and this was fine. A bit of noise but what do you expect - we just put in our ear plugs if required!!

Bathroom needs updating but ok. The fridge was handy too. Loved the rooftop terrace for sunbathing and beautiful views. Breakfast was more than adequate. Staff were great at all times day and night.

We enjoyed the situation and found we were close to all sites and in the evening cafes and bars were nearby. We found some lovely places to drink and eat close by which were reasonably priced as well.

Stayed there April 2008, rate $150 EURO per night, triple room.

Good hotel for the money, GREAT location in the middle of everything in Plaka district.

Good clean room, good beds, good furniture.

So-So bathroom, clean but dated.

You have to pay for Internet Access, I paid 4 EURO for 1 hour access time, you get your user name and password to login to local access point.

Good breakfast

This is a good hotel in the middle of the very busy Plaka (old town) area of athens - reasonably priced, clean and comfortable. The rooms are small to medium, the bathrooms are very small. Rooms include a Air conditioning (although this was not available during our stay), a fridge, which was very useful and a safe for your valuables. We stayed for 4 nights and moved rooms after the first night. Our first room was on the 4th floor overlooking the road at the front of the hotel and it was just too noisy - traffic, people shouting, dogs barking, car alarms - you name it and you can pretty much hear it - almost all night, at least until 4 or 5 am. It quietens for a couple of hours and then starts again at 6 to 7am. The hotel were happy to move us and the second room waas on the 5th floor at the back with a view of the Acropolis - the room was slightly larger but the shower room (no bath) was absolutley tiny - no great issue for us and to be honest the view and the quietness was worth it. Breakfast included fresh fruit, breads, croissants (freshly baked), greek yoghurt with honey, cereals, scrambled eggs and hot dog style sausages. We only ate the croissants so I cannot really comment on the rest but I thought it was a pretty good selection. The best thing about this hotel is its location - absolutely perfectly situated to explore the Acropolis, Temple of zeus, Ancient Agora etc. Good selection of local places to eat but obviously a bit touristy. We would stay again but would request a high room at the back - otherwise if you are a light sleeper - not ideal.

I stayed 4 times in Hotel Plaka in Athina. I always choosed Hotel Plake for the excellent location in the heart of Athens. Sightseeing, restaurants, shops, ets are located very close to Hotel Plaka. From the roof garden you have a superbe view to the Acropolis. Please forget the breakfast is very poor, but the location of the Hotel will help to forget that. Staff is not very frendly and bathrooms are smalls.

Could not have been a better location. Right in the center of exactly where we needed to be for 2 fast paced days to see everything in Athens. Literally in the center of the Acropolis, shopping, and loads of restaurants. There is a rooftop deck with a bar that opens in the evening that gives an amazing view of the Acropolis all lit up.

The rooms are small, but decent. Not the quietest hotel, but it’s worth it for the location and the price.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone traveling to Athens. It is a perfect central location. If this hotel is booked, definitely try to find something else right in the same location. You will not be disappointed.

We stayed in Hotel Plaka in October 07, for a week. The staff were efficient, though rather reserved. The room was clean & very adequate, though the bathroom was rather small – clean towels were provided daily.

The breakfast room provided the usual cosmopolitan fare with the addition of superb, thick Greek yoghurt (if only we could get Greek yoghurt like this in the UK) & honey. Sadly this was not designated a “No Smoking” area.

Although we didn’t have cause to use it, there was a very comfortable lounge, with coffee- making facilities & biscuits.

The roof garden gave a spectacular view of the Acropolis that was even better at night when it was floodlit. The roof garden bar however was rather expensive.

The hotel is ideally situated for the many bars & restaurants that were only a minutes walk away. Friendly restaurateurs & waiters enticed us to sample their food with offers of complimentary ouzo.

The hotel is also magnificently positioned to visit the many historic sites and museums. The Metro, trams & buses were punctual, clean & good value for money, putting the British transport system to shame – likewise the airport.

Overall, good value for money & well recommended. We would not hesitate to stay there again.
