We were visiting Athens for one day aboard the Celebrity Constellation in October 2011 and I did quite a bit of research for the "best" one day tour. Sure, Private Greece Tours has great reviews here on TA but what sealed the deal was the timely and professional communication of Nikos. I organized a tour for 14 of us and had LOTS of questions over the months preceding the cruise and he answered each inquiry thoroughly - typically within just a few hours. We arrived at the port of Piraeus on a Sunday morning (which is ideal from a traffic standpoint) and met by our guide, Frank, and driver, George, who were in an almost new 18-passenger Mercedes Sprinter van. I had booked the full day Athens Tour, details for which can be found on-line (http://www.privategreecetours.com/index.php?) so I won't spend time detailing all of the highlights here. What really impressed all of us was that the entire day ran like clockwork. We were always arriving just ahead of the big crowds (e.g., Acropolis) or at the perfect time (e.g., changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier). Something unique about this tour is a stop atop Lycabettus Hill which provides a panoramic view of the Acropolis and the city of Athens. Large tour buses cannot drive up to this spot so you'll have photos that others will envy! We'd asked to eat lunch at a good local restaurant and George phoned ahead to get us reservations at one of his favorite spots. The food was fantastic, cheap, and we were the only tourists in the place. Throughout the very long day, both Frank and George were unfailingly friendly and polite, with the former answering myriad questions about Greek history, social unrest, etc. I always feel the pressure when I'm responsible for setting up a group tour and thankfully Private Greece Tours didn't let me down with everyone saying they had a great time. Trust in Nikos and his staff, they won't let you down.
