My niece and I visited Athens for 3 days mid-September, staying at the Acropolis Museum hotel. Our taxi driver, Giannis Grivoyannis, recommend the nearby Smile restaurant which we would have probably otherwise missed as from the outside it looks more like a fast food than a genuine restaurant - and we would have regretted it! We finally had dinner there all our 3 nights in Athens. Not only is the food very good and freshly cooked and the servings big , but the family running the business is very welcoming and smiling, particularly Connie and cheerful daughter Zoi - we were offered delicious loukoumades drippping with honey and masticha at the end of our meals. In addition the prices are incredibly reasonable for a big capital and the location next to the Acropolis, especially the crisis menu. If we return to Athens we'll definitely be back!
