Was recommended to this restaurant by a local gift shop owner. He was adamant I had to try. Had the whole fried fish, can't remember the name but it's the only one on the menu fried whole (white flaky fishy). Delish! Fresh and tasty. I was alone but Demitri an older gentleman waiter was so nice and explained to me the Byzantine history, hence the restaurant name. Even another glass of wine on the house! Seriously everyone in Greece has been so nice and open, this meal rounded out my wonderful first night experience in Athens. Eating dinner well past 12:30am, just like the greeks lol.

The service is very good and the food is good too, I can honestly say that I have never been ill after eating there. It's good in winter as well as in summer as there are heaters to keep away the winter chill from the al fresco diners. I loved the dolmades in egg and lemon sauce, but the moussaka is sometimes a disappointment. Try the horta (a type of mallow). The waiters can manage a number of languages between them and have a friendly rivalry with the taverna next door, the Plaka taverna.

Waiter spoke finnish.. i would assume among other languages.. lamb souvlaki was tasty, salmon was a bit dry and overcooked. House wine good and cheap. Meals for two was 40€. Maybe a bit touristy. Food was ok.

Perfect location in La Plaka district within five minutes' walking distance from the Acropolis Museum. Authentic Greek food offering large portions at reasonable prices. Clean kitchen as well! Approximately $30 euros for 2 people for lunch (3 shared options plus bottled waters).
