I hated this hotel. The hotel itself is ok but the staff is rude and worthless. The woman who works there has no right to be in the hospitality business. Refused to answer basic questions such as where is the nearest metro stop, where is the bus stop, where is there a travel agency. The metro Green Line was not running and she refused to give me information on the next nearest stop. She was abrupt and horrible. The location without the metro was terrible. People of questionable integrity hang out on the steps. I had to climb over them day and night to get in and out and the front desk took no action. People are under the windows all night and they are loud. It is not a good neighborhood.

Exis 'Boutique' Hotel is a lovely stay, from the welcoming staff to the super soft sheets. A little out of the city centre but that was expected as it's a very reasonable price. The nearest metro is Attiki which is a 3 euro cab ride away then 10 minutes into town. Recommended.

Hotel exis

Very nice, we didn't book it as such, because we weren't sure about the area but as we arrived it turned out that it's not only great price and great standard but also great location. Only 10mins on the bus to omonia Squre, 7 mins walk to ......, a lovely walk-only street full of cafes, lounge bars and restaurants. The hotel staff were very friendly, rooms clean and pleasant. There is a theme to the hotel which seemed a little direct, walls in the foyer, halls and in the rooms are indifferently decorated with couples making love and artistic nude pictures.     As it's a boutique hotel, we asked to change rooms and the second one was fantastic, with four posters and jacuzzi. The direct surrounding of the hotel looked a little awkward initially as there was plenty of people who seemed to be preoccupied with hanging around all day long, but they turned out to be minding their own business and we felt safe coming home at night. Overall it was great and very affordable.

I booked this hotel based on the great rate and nice pictures of the hotel. Once I arrived to the hotel with some friends I had some reservations.

First, I was asked to pay in cash. This is never really a good sign.
Second, the woman at the front desk wanted to keep our passports and bring them back to us when she was finished. We politely said we would wait and she looked annoyed while jotting down information. Seemed shady.
Third, got to room, which seemed updated, but noticed the lights didn't go on very bright.
Fourth, yes, there are raunchy porn channels.
Fifth, yes, naked pictures on the walls and scarlet paint.
sixth, not a great neighborhood.

Overall, I felt like I was in a brothel, so we asked for our money back - which they didn't agree to.

We ended up at the Athens Gate Hotel, which was MUCH better and I would highly recommend. Location is better, rooms were much nicer, I felt safe, and they have a great rooftop bar. They are also much closer to metro station (beware of pickpockets!).

We found this hotel on a number of the hotel accomodation web sites and was steered to the hotel's own web site. It was presented nicely and so we decided to book our first two nights in Athens (then headed out to the islands). We were rather uncomfortable about not finding any reviews and after reading some frightening stories about some other hotels, we were a little worried but stuck with the booking.
We arrived at 1am at Athens airport and took the bus into Syntagma Square. Then caught a taxi from there to the hotel. Fare was 25.00 Euro for about a 7 minute ride and once inside the hotel we realised and thought we had been ripped off somewhat. But it was worth getting to the hotel safely at that time of night.
I have to agree with 'Tegger's" post. The hotel was very nice and clean with clean comfortable bedding and a clean ensuite (we took a double room). There was a smoking odour in the room but worse in the hallways - but hey the whole of Greece seems to smoke! Management was very helpful. Our room was facing onto the road and so it was rather noisy until about 2am, but I think other rooms away from the road would have been much quieter.
On the whole we were relieved and quite pleased with our stay.
