I stayed in the beginning of April for 5 nights in one of the "hostel" rooms, which reading about the hotel rooms i'm glad. It was clean, modern, and really good. Yes there isn't much for breakfast but eating it 5 mornings in a row I still wasn't sick of it. Don't think the cleaner did much other than give us extra toilet paper but the room was clean when we arrived so no complaints there. i really enjoyed the stay at athenstyle, on the last night there was alot of noise coming from somewhere nearby which was annoying but can't complain too much as the hostel was really secure and I felt quite safe leaving my valuables in there. - also it was a friday night. ive recommended this place to everyone!

I also agree with comments made by the last person after just having stayed here a few days. The location is good, it's a short walk to the metro, flea market etc, and we were were able to walk to the Agora and the Acropolis easily enough, but the cleaner they currently have needs to be given the flick, and fast. We had to wait a little longer on arrival as we were early and the room wasn't ready, which was fine, but when we were finally given the key and told it was ready, it hadn't been touched at all.

Cleaner took a second 'attempt' later on - still rubbish left behind from the last person, dust & hair everywhere, and the bathroom soap dispenser was empty. (This was mentioned 4 times to staff but never refilled). Went out 2nd day, wet towels had been removed and not replaced and garbage etc still hadn't been touched, (considering you can't flush t/paper and have to bin it instead.)
It's not a big place so heaven knows what the cleaner actually does do there?!

Breakfast - jam on bread - OK if you're just grabbing something small and fast on the way out, but hardly a meal. It suited us fine, but If you want something more you'll have to go out and buy it. having said that, the fruit vendors in the square were selling delectable strawberries and bananas, and you can buy other large pretzel-looking things.

Walls are paper thin - you can hear a pin drop in the stairwell from your room, not to mention the rowdy people coming back late at night. The rest of the staff were more helpful, although when it came to actually chasing the cleaner up and making him do his job it was more than weak.

The good:
central location - Monastiraki, all main attractions withing walkable distance, typical greek neighborhood not as touristy as Plaka with lots of flea markets and nice tavernas. A great view of Acropolis from the building terace (great for photos at night/dusk/dawn)

The not so good:
although the place is quite new, the rooms are not well looked after despite the hotel-like prices (65euros for a double private room). I understand it's a hostel but cleaning should be a basic service. The bathroom hadn't been cleaned for quite some time, there was hair, dust and such stuff. At least it didn't smell and they were picking the garbage daily. But why not clean a bit?! Have hinted this twice at reception to two different persons without any results.

The internet is free for just 1h, then you have to pay a ridiculous fee for any extra hour. That sucks.

They charge 2E for towels. I don't dare imagine their degree of cleanness based on the bathroom we had.

The breakfast is a joke comprised of bread, butter, marmalade and an incredibly sweet orange juice (probably not to have too much).

The walls are incredibly thin and we had the misfortune to catch a party on sat night. Lots of noise and even cigarette smoke came through in our room. Yukk...

Although Athenstyle is not listed in Lonely Planet and the rest yet, I found out about it (and it came highly recommended) from a number of booking websites. I checked out the hostel's own website (http://www.athenstyle.com) and was immediately pleased: it seemed affordable, well-located, comfortable, and cool.

I was not disappointed! I spent 4 nights at the hostel, between Christmas and New Year's '08 (2 nights in the 6-bed dorm and 2 nights in the 4-bed dorm). They also have private rooms/suites.

The decor was cool and funky, the beds were comfortable, the linens clean, the bathrooms more than decent, the neighborhood central (literally a minute's walk from the Metro, and just down the street from Athens' most famous sandalmaker and the 7-days-a-week flea market!), and the people cool. The staff were super nice and very helpful in planning out days' itineraries. There was also a common kitchen with a fridge in which one could store one's own groceries.

Breakfast (bread, butter, jam, orange juice and coffee/hot chocolate) was a bit more sparse than the spread I had imagined given their advertisement of "fresh local ingredients" etc, but more than sufficient for those like me on a shoestring budget who didn't want to spend that money on expensive eats elsewhere. And yes, the hostel is *right* next to a nightclub, which means that there can be pounding music going on late into the night -- but even as a pretty light sleeper I was tired enough from my days' journeys that I did OK sleeping at night.

Bonus: I wasn't there for Christmas or New Year's, but the staff put on a big dinner on both those nights for the guests so that noone felt far away from home. The hostel has a basement rec-room with a home theatre system, pool table, and lounging space. Because it was cold and rainy in Athens during my time there, we watched movies on the big screen every evening, with blankets to keep us warm downstairs.

All in all, I had a lovely stay, and would totally go back again if I were travelling through Greece!
