“Excellent fresh fish”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

Love this place, very popular among locals and some tourists, wide selection of seafood appetizers and grilled fish, prices are very average, don't expect great service after all it's a family ran business, recommend to all

“Simple Greek seafood at good value”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

It's a typical Greek tavern, with a lot of outside seating next to the seawater. There isn't a big variety to choose but for seafood lovers it's excellent. Very popular in the area and not only, something important for the quality of the food and especially for its freshness. Small fish like gavros, sare but always fried or grilled to perfection. There is also galeos suitable for people who don't like wdines or marides are consumed everyday in big quantities.More expensive fish like mullets,a lot of fresh salads and sauces like aioli, fried vegetables, etc. The house wine is wonderful and the portions very generous.
Perfect dishes for your ouzo or wine.
It's open from 11 o'clock in the morning till 11 o'clock in the evening, with a big parking area. During the day the view is wonderful. The sea with all its activities next to you and the land of Evia in the background. When dark, especially at full moon day, it's very romantic.

“Broke my rule and paid for it”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

I have a rule with regards to eating well when I am traveling:
Never eat at a place that advertises in maps or other tourist pamphlets.
I broke this rule when we went to Avra on our last day in Athens and paid for it.
The service was so, so. The food was no better. Just very average. One of the plates came with so much pepper it was uneatable. To their credit, we complained and they took it off the bill. If you are looking for some place to eat a salad or something light and are in the neighborhood you might go here but if you’re looking for a great meal, ambiance look somewhere else.

“Potential, but basically average”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

Avra is located at the northern end of the beach in Nea Makri and is a fish taverna with a relatively limited menu, specializing in fresh fish. Very simplistic and causal style. Service can be sporadic, and the food is generally mediocre. Very popular on weekends, and prices are very reasonable. Not worth seeking out, but an OK choice if one is in the area and wants fresh fish at a decent price. This was our second visit, and helped confirm my initial opinion (which was not the subject of a review.)
