“wow.. best loukoumades”
Reviewed April 6, 2014

We went in Krinos with the intention of getting donuts (we didn't know any better). Upon entry, we saw a couple of older ladies sitting inside will full plates of loukoumades. They seemed to be enjoying themselves. The price was cheap, the plate comes with 6 total. I have to say, these are the best desserts I've ever had. Crisp on the outside, yet delicate and chewy on the inside. Make sure you get a whole plate to yourself, I regret not eating more of this delicious treat during my stay in Athens.

“An Athens Classic”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

Krinos began serving coffee, pastries, and light lunch items (sandwiches and salads) in 1923. My husband remembers going to Krinos as a young child for loukoumades (fried donuts soaked in honey and cinnamon). The restaurant was recently updated - but they have kept its old Athens charm. Service is cafeteria style - on your first visit - find a table, review the menu which has an English version - and then go to the service line in the back - to place your order. We stop in for a snack of loukoumades or bougatsa (custard filled phyllo) and coffee every time we are in the area. A loukoumades (six balls) and coffee is around 3 euros. A stop at Krinos is a great pick-me-up. They also have very nice bathrooms (follow the signs up the stairs). If you are in a hurry - there is a walk-up window in the front for take out orders. If you want to experience life as an Athenian - a stop a Krinos is a must.
