Found this place on trip advisor and we were quite interested in visiting because we were stating in ladyville... Not far away. Keep your eye out for the sign that is painted on the side of a building next to a gas station (puma?)....keep driving down the dirt road and you will see the processing facility on your right... Go further between the shrimp ponds take a right and follow that to the restaurant. Don't get worried if you get turned around everyone we encountered in Belize was SO FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL and being that we were driving ourselves everywhere and roads aren't marked like in the states we were lost a lot!
On arrival we got some frosty belikins and enjoyed the breeze and the view. Sitting at the bar was the owner Kim...she was so so SO friendly kind and informative as we asked her 1000 questions about her life in Belize, her business, and tourist dos and donts. We were the only customers at the time so we got star treatment and we so appreciated that! Kim's sister Lisa even offered to have me back to the restaurant to teach me how to make traditional rice and beans Belizean style since I love to cook. We never made it back and I'm sorry Lisa!!! We were also able to watch the fisherman catch our shrimp - talk about farm to table! Doesn't get more fresh than that! Thank you to Kim, Lisa, and one other sweet wonderful young lady whose name I've forgotten :( for a delightful meal and conversation! I highly recommend a visit here during your stay in ladyville or Belize city!

We were recommended to come to Captain Hook's as the shrimp here is supposed to be the best. It's a little off the beaten track but we found it in the end. We ordered the shrimp and waited and waited. Now this place is open to the elements and despite copious quantities of bug spray we were feeling that we were on the menu, surrounded by sand flies and mosquitos. If you do come bring bug spray and mosquito coils. After about 30 mins we asked what was happening to be told that they catch the shrimp when it is ordered and the guy was coming out, should only be 5 minutes. After a further 30 minutes we gave up. The food may be wonderful but we'll never know. The guy apparently had come out but hadn't caught anything and was trying his luck elsewhere. Seriously guys you need to come up with a different solution or you need to warn people when they order that it could take some time so you handle customer expectations, not making them wait and then saying 5 minutes when you don't mean it.

We lived here for several months before we even heard about the place. We take all our guests here now, and they love it! Driving there, you certainly wouldn't think you're going to a cool restaurant like this. I was sure I was lost the first time I went to find it, but lo and behold there it was. We were lucky to meet Charlie that time, and on subsequent visits we've found that all the staff are wonderful. They seem really proud of what they've got going there, and are great at explaining it all. On the one hand, I think they could market more aggressively, but on the other hand, I like the quiet friendly atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit!

We just found out about this restaurant this week and had to check it out. Oh my goodness! We have never had better or fresher shrimp ever - anywhere! The staff and owner, Kim, are very accommodating and were just a delight to talk to. We each had the coconut shrimp that came with fries and a lovely fresh salad. Honestly, if you have never experienced the culinary delight of fresh shrimp, you don't know what you are missing! Sublime - going back to frozen shrimp is no longer an option. After finishing our meals, we were treated to the gentleman catching our shrimp for us to take home! We were not leaving Captain Hook's without taking some home to cook for ourselves. For the grand total of $50 US, we each had a wonderful lunch, drinks, brought home 2 1/2 pounds of fresh shrimp and tip included! We will be going back, often, before we have to return to Canada. Next visit will include a tour of both the freshwater and saltwater crocodile sanctuaries. One could easily spend the better part of a day exploring their lovely grounds. Looking forward to our next visit.

This place was fantastic! You watch them catch your shrimp, you can even cook your own shrimp, and mango wine! Wonderful experience! The owner Charlie was the nicest man I have ever met! He took my husband over the whole place, including his farm where he grows vegetables. My husband was like a child at Christmas when he came back! He enjoyed hanging with Charlie about as much as he did his food! We will definitely be back to visit the shrimp farm!
