I stayed two weeks in the LPH and was thoroughly underwhelmed by the supposedly best hotel in the city. It may have been the best when it was constructed in the 60s, but now it is a very dated and uncomfortable business hotel.
I knew it was going to be one of those stays when I needed to ask how to turn on the electricity to the room and was advised that the small brick attached to the key goes into a hole in the wall! I had never seen anything quite so dated. In the evening this gave the issue of having to put the brick into the wall to get some light only to remove it again so as to be able to lock the door.
The room itself was simple and functional. The main issue is you can hear EVERYTHING that goes on in the adjacent rooms in the corridor and the corridors above and below. So basically you are woken all hours by other guest going about there business. So the one basic thing a hotel should be, a place to rest, this is not.
The bathroom is small and simple and you can happily chat to your neighbour while in the shower. The shower itself is a plus point and the reason the hotel gets an extra star. The hot water is immediate and the shower very powerful. So after you've had a terrible nights rest, it helps you to get you going again. But, you will need to go and ask for soap as the maids never leave any.
Breakfast was a medium - small buffet, which was very uninspiring and the staff only seemed interesting in watching the tv. The breakfast is served at the top of the hotel and there is a nice view available of the city (this is the only other plus point of the hotel).
Below and part of the hotel is a restaurant, which is very popular with the locals, but is very expensive when compared to other restaurants in the city. That said it is a shame the high class image of the restaurant is not mirrored in the hotel.
And then there is the internet. It was up and down all throughout my stay and could not be relied upon. In the end this was the final straw and reason why I changed to another hotel in the city, which is certainly a better experience.
With the Ibis opening in the city soon the LPH needs a re-think.
