“Excellent hotel, room amazing and breakfast 100%”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2014 via mobile

We booked to stay here for the last 4 nights of our Thailand trip. Booked a garden pool villa. Half board as we thought we might have run out of cash by then. (Thailand so cheap we hadn't.)
The room was everything and more. Loved the private pool, outdoor bathroom was different. The little sweets on bed each night with a handwritten note was a lovely touch.
The beach was clean, had a couple of massages from the girls on beach.
The hotel staff around the beach very helpful and always smiling. Reception staff and hotel shop staff were again excellent.
As everyone says the breakfast is something else. It's good and options are a nice touch. Best cup of tea in Thailand!
We ate in both restaurants and had excellent meals every night. Thai, pizza and steak, the choice was great, though if you not half board there are plenty of restaurants within a 5 minute walk out of the hotel.
Wednesday night is the market night in town, excellent range for last minute gifts!
The only thing I would say is some of the restaurant staff in the main restaurant are not as helpful as the others.
This would not put me off going back as if I could I would be back there this weekend! Loved it.

We stayed at Sala for 8 nights in a one bedroom pool villa as part of our honeymoon.

The staff picked us up from the airport in a nice, cool, modern vehicle. We were welcomed to the resort, checked in, and taken to our room nicely and efficiently. The pool villa was amazing, as good as the pictures. Having our own private pool was fantastic, the room was beautiful, and having both sun and shade beds just outside our door was perfect.

The staff were friendly, helpful, discrete, and all-together excellent. Nothing was too much trouble.

The beds were reasonably comfortable, though like many beds in Asia a little on the hard side. The curtains blocked light reasonably well, though not as well as in big city hotels. The outdoor bathroom worked quite well, I liked the outdoor shower. The air conditioner rattled a little bit, but it was better than average for Thailand. The housekeeping staff were always lovely, helpful, and kept the place immaculate.

The restaurant is excellent - a good menu, a good range of dishes, high quality food, and they cater for vegetarians. I have no doubt they'd cater for any dietary requirements any guest has. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all excellent. The breakfast buffet was especially impressive, as was the Thai food night. The live music was a nice touch. The local restaurants were tasty and good value, especially Khon Thai which did delicious local food.

Sala was the highlight of our trip to Thailand.

Room Tip: The rooms with their own pool are really worthwhile. Stay away from the pool/bar area if you can, th...

We wanted a relaxing holiday away from all of the "Blackpool" style places that you can sometimes get in Thailand (like Chewang) but one that was not completely isolated either.

Sala Samui offers the perfect location and hotel & spa. It is the last hotel on a stretch of beach with just a couple of hotels, bars and restuarants which makes it very peaceful. Easy distance from the airport and Bo Phut fishing village if you want some night life, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle too.

Beautiful rooms. You have the choice of a upstairs room with a balcony or a room with a private pool. Not sure if you need to pay more for a private pool as the hotel offers 2 beautful pools and is right on the beach too. It's a personal choice. The hotel offers full spa facilities too.

The staff are beautiful people and cannot do enough for you. The food is great. We did have a couple of occasions where it was not quite up to standard and we mentioned it. The Hotel manager Dick came and saw us personally and really looked after us.

I would highly recommend this hotel as one of the best on Koh Samui.

TIPS:
One of the best features of Sala Samui is that the breakfast menu (whihc has some lovely choices) is served all day. The buffet is taken away at 11am. But if you are up early for a trip and come back later or just fancy a lay in, you can order th ebreakfast at anytime.

Candle lit dinner on the beach. Stunning and worth every penny.

The hotels massages are excellent in a beautufil environment. However if you are on a budget they are cheaper on the beach.

If you like a variety of food there are some excellent restaurants in walking distance either along the beach or just outside the resort.

You can taxi to Bo Phut village for 300 bhart.

We went on a trip to Koh Tao. I would recommend paying the extra and going with a very safe compeny called "100 degress east".They do diving and a speed boat trip to Koh Tao with snorkeling etc. It is more expensive with this company but they are very safety conscious, fully registered and you get your equipment and thais food supplied. Koh Tao is 70 miles away. You to be on a speed boat to get there (it take 1.5 hours on a speedboat). If you go on one the bigger boat trips it is much cheaper, but most people end up being sick and it takes ages to get there.

Car hire is cheap and you can drive around the island in a day while stopping at waterfalls, restaurants etc. I recomend hiring a 4x4 and pay the extra £10 for a good one rahther than a Susuki Jeep. You can hire cars in the White House Shop next door (just along the beach) at very good prices.

Overall a fantastic place. Don't really want to rave about it too much because you will all go there and ruin the ambience!!

PS if you like drinking lots of beer and union jack shorts PLEASE DO NOT GO TO SALA. You will ruin it. You will be better of in Chewang!!

Room Tip: Beautiful rooms. You have the choice of a upstairs room with a balcony or a room with a private pool...

We stayed at Sala Samui in February this year to celebrate a big birthday. We've been to Koh Samui before and stayed at Chaweng and we wanted to be away from the hustle and bustle this time so Sala Samui was perfect. The beach is so much more peaceful than Chaweng and much cleaner as the jet-skis are kept away from the hotel beach area.

I don't really understand why people complain about the entrance area - it's a pleasant desk area where you check in: I don't really know why you'd want to spend that much time in a lobby area anyway! We were greeted on arrival with a lovely cold drink and our room was ready even though we arrived early in the morning so that was fantastic after a long journey. We were shown to our room and had a quick explanation of everything. It would have been helpful to have had a bit more information about the hotel when we arrived - maybe a little mini tour of the restaurant and pool areas to help us find out how everything worked - but we worked it out ourselves so not really much of a problem.

Our room was beautiful. We had a Garden Pool villa and the pool was fantastic - such a treat to have our own private pool - I loved it. The outdoor bath and shower was amazing - being able to shower and look at the sky was just fantastic. The bed was very comfortable - you don't need the duvet though - way too hot! A couple of the lightbulbs didn't work when we arrived so we rang housekeeping and they were replaced immediately. We also asked for extra mosquito coils and they came very quickly too. As mentioned, it would have been good to have all the little bits explained at the beginning, e.g. show us where the mosquito plug in was kept, and that the coils were replaced daily and that sort of thing. We didn't really understand the choice of pillow idea or the body lotion choices - whether we were supposed to change them daily or just get the same things the whole holiday so we just left that. Anyway, we are probably just a bit dense and the pillows and body lotion we had were fine!! It was really handy having a nice beach bag which I found in the wardrobe - nice idea. The cleaning staff and the turn-down staff were fantastic - they couldn't have been nicer and did a brilliant job. The guy who did the turn-down and left the night-time sweets often left a little note which was lovely.

I was given vouchers for spa treatments for birthday presents from friends so I had a facial, a massage and a manicure which were all good. The Clarins facial was particularly brilliant! We were also offered a complimentary thai massage for myself and my husband so that was another bonus.

The breakfast buffet was out of this world - top class. Major plus point for a hotel buffet - the coffee was very very good! I could rhapsodise about the breakfast forever - suffice to say it was wonderful. We were also given vouchers to the Thai buffet night - the food was lovely but the wine is expensive. I know it's the same all over Koh Samui because of the wine tax which is a shame. As other reviewers have said, most people go elsewhere to eat in the evenings or eat and then go off to party at the cheaper places nearby so it's a bit dead after about 9pm. It's a shame, as it's such a lovely setting, but I don't really know what the answer is - it's a 5-star hotel so you're not going to get bucket-shop prices and they're not really way over the top - it's just compared to the local places they are more expensive. If somehow they could get the place a bit buzzier in the evenings it would be nice to stay and party at the hotel as it's so lovely.

The two pools and the beach area are wonderful - beautifully kept and maintained. The staff are incredibly attentive and helpful. One day I got up to move my bed to face the sun and a gardener rushed over to do it for me before I could lift a finger. It's the same all over - the staff are such a credit to the hotel and really what make it 5-star. Every member of staff was friendly and helpful and always with a charming smile. They really helped make it a perfect holiday.

Room Tip: Definitely take a villa with a pool - it just makes it so special.

It is a SALA. We stayed for our Honeymoon and were highly impressed with Sala Samui, it exceeded all our expectations and it was certainly tough to leave! We had a garden pool villa which had a lovely deep pool and sunbathing loungers alongside. The staff were friendly, the room and facilities exceptionally clean and there were lots of nice touches to the room and surprises during our stay. Only real down-point was that you need to go along the beach a little to swim in the sea as there is a lot of slimy seaweed in the shallow water directly in front of Sala (perhaps they could clear this out?). Highly recommend. Would definitely be back!

Room Tip: Go for a pool villa!

We stayed at the SALA for five nights. We were upgraded to a larger suite (always nice, thanks Dick). The private plunge pool is very relaxing and all the amenities are top quality. Didn't care much for the outdoor toilet or the heavy duvet on the bed.
The outdoor shower and tub are wonderful.
The restaurant is very good and we cannot say enough of the staff. From the reception to the restaurant to the pool and beachside, all the staff are friendly and helpful.
The complementary message was very relaxing and professional.
The gym is better than average for Samui.

Room Tip: use the ceiling fan with the AC. better control.
