Loved this resort went xmas 2013 and new year, would recommend you have breakfast inc because it's lovely ,the staff are fantastic and it's all the little touches.

We had bottle bubbly on arrival, and nibbles, we had a xmas present each villa, free spa, and free meal in the hotel.

Would recommend pay a little extra have pool villa , we had garden lovely was in it every night , immaculate cleaned every day , the maids were fantastic to , everything you asked for they got .

Each villa cleaned top to bottom everyday , inside and out , staff fantastic, other bonus is your just minutes walk from choeg mon resort , lots of bars resteraunts cafés little shops ,and buses into cheweng and lamai but remember barter with the drivers don't pay first price.

We would loved to have gone back this xmas but it meant move ing villas , as we left it to late

Highly recommended , as I've said not cheapest but you only get what you pay for fantastic resort, but also opt on booking not to go to xmas and new year evening dos we saw it last year by 11.30 pm it had finished not even at midnight and very expensive just a tip .

Room Tip: Don't book xmas and New Year's Eve dos expensive not worth it. Book garden pool villa fab...

Dear signature "Venetia A",

Thank you very much for your lovely review of SALA Samui, and we hope to see you back in a near future ! Thank you very much for your feedback on 2013:s festive events ( we had similar feedback /impressions), and we did make significant improvements and reduced the price slightly for 2014, and I dare to say that it was a spectacular New Years Eve, and we would be delighted to celebrate New Year 2015 in your company,

Upon arriving to Samui and finding my luggage did not make the trip with me; I thought my vacation was doomed from the start. I was touched by the helpfulness and extra gesture May and the GM Mr Simarro; who personally welcomed me and put me at ease by lending me a sarong and making sure that my villa was ready so I could rest (and wait) until my luggage arrived 10 hrs after. The intro to the villa's amenities ( choice of soaps, pillows, etc) were a nice touch; and the pool was completely spotless - not a weed / leaf / insect were found on the surface!
The hotel grounds were well maintained, the two pools (one for laps, other for relaxation) was a great touch. The beach was a hop away, and the beach attendants were ready to hand out cool glasses of water to keep us hydrated under the sun. The gym was near the roadside but had a good variety of equipment and weights. The Spa menu had a wonderful choice of treatments and their staff were very professional.
Breakfast featured a great assortment of fresh fruits (mangoes) and western/Asian style dishes, but the main draw was the a la carte menu and the mixed juice / health drinks that you can order at the bar. In the evening the same restaurant featured a wonderful mix of thai/fusion dishes that were extremely flavorful. I recommend the tuna appetizer and the devilish chocolate dessert.
The only awkward moments was that housekeeping times were erratic, maybe it was my own fault for not arranging at the front desk - at times the room was made up when I was away at breakfast, at times it was not done until after noon. The bathrooms were "outdoor" but not awkward to get to; but the toilet may be a bit temperamental- so call housekeeping if you think the water is not flushing fast enough (and to avoid floods, which thankfully did not happen)

Room Tip: Pool villa

This is a place which is focused on creating great holidays for its guests. Every little detail and scenario seems to have been thought of, so you can focus on relaxing and enjoying yourself.

We were greeted at reception with freshly made cold drinks and cold towels, which were very welcome after landing in 30 degree heat! Check-in was quick and seamless, and the staff were incredibly welcoming.

We were shown to and around our room, and given a free bottle of champagne to help us settle in. Housekeeping visit daily and leave you with a clean, fresh room with complementary snacks and bottled water. They also take care to spray mosquito repellant and light the coil burner every evening.

Because we booked early, we were entitled to a free couples massage and a free meal at the restaurant, so we made reservations for those.

The spa was of a high standard, very relaxing and welcoming.

The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and evening meals with each menu offering a wide variety of well cooked and well presented dishes, covering everything from Thai to Western cuisine. Their specials change daily and they occasionally run special events (my favourite being the Thai buffet and barbecue).

The resort is in a fantastic location, a short walk from the town shops, about a mile or so from the fisherman's village and the Big Buddha, and a 10 minute drive (taxi rank at the hotel) away from both the airport and Chaweng. A lot of the boat tours depart from the fisherman's village.

There is also a gift shop, library, computer room and luggage storage available.

Overall, we are very happy to have stayed here, and can't wait to go back! It's an incredibly beautiful place, in a great location along the beach front, with the most friendly and helpful staff you could ever hope to meet.

10/10

Room Tip: The Balcony rooms have a better layout than the Garden rooms, but the Villas are just amazing!

We came to Samui after a few days in Phucket and I was so happy with our decision to stay at Sala Samui. Tucked in the beach of Choeng Mon, the water was an amazingly calm and clean sight as we laid on the beach. Both pools are great with views of the ocean and they even have an ocean kayak you can take our for free.

We rented a pool villa and were greeted each night with a small treat from Chef Nick. The details that Sala paid to our needs were extraordinary. The villa had a nice sized pool and daybed. The bathroom was partially outside and had a rain shower. The mosquitos were a little troublesome but Sala provided the candles and bug spray to keep them out.

The experience at Sala overall was incredible but by far the highlight of the resort is the food. We ventured away from the resort a few times in the 4 days we were there (including Elephant trekking) but nothing we ate in all of Thailand compared to the private 5 course meal we arranged on the beach. The breakfast had a nice blend of thai and american choices and the lunch/ happy hours offered nice menus. The dinners were incredible. If you enjoy the thai food, highly recommend the cooking class as well.

Overall the experience was incredible and made our honeymoon that much more special.

Room Tip: The private pool made for a great honeymoon treat.

Boy I spend ages looking into where to book someting for the Gulf Of Thailand part of our holiday ( too much choice !! ), and finally took the advice of our travel agent Andaman Sky, with whom we ended up booking a lengthy tour of the whole country and who got us a good price at this and all the other hotels we stayed at except for one, which we booked direct. They seemed okay with that :)

The real best thing about the Sala is the quiet beach atmosphere, unlike the crazy party zones elsewhere on the island. Many of the other parts of Samui have become a 24/7 party zone for drunken teenagers and twentysomethings. Very different from the Samui of 10 years ago indeed.
God I sound like a grumpy old man.
about The Sala :
We got a private pool in a detached villa near the beach, which is our idea of heaven. I’ve stayed in lots of these around the world in the past and the way it is implemented at the Sala Samui is particularly pleasing, as we love simplicity and dislike clutter.
Staff were as polite and friendly as you would expect in Thailand, but also very unobtrusive too, not loitering like at some places.

The breakfasts here include vegetables, fresh fruits, Thai food, an egg station, meats and salads, everything I can imagine anyone on the planet wishing to start the day with (you can even get an alcoholic drink too if u must !?!).

Comfy bed was a big plus and unusual for Thailand. The sheets were in good condition and the furniture looked brand new. The room was large without being too big and included everything we wanted, including a romantic setting for our honeymoon. Water pressure was good, another problem in Thailand. The outdoor bathroom took a bit of getting used to but was a cool touch, as was the Jacuzzi bathtub.

Our villa was always kept spotless. The restaurant food was yummy and the location good, overlooking the beach and pool. Lovely landscaping.
Overall, I have to say this is one of the best places we’ve ever stayed.
Our tip : Book as part of an Andaman Sky tour through the region, they will customise a vacation to just your wishes, plus they saved us money on this hotel and a couple others.

My husband and I spent 4 nights at Sala Samui on the last leg of our honeymoon to Thailand and enjoyed every minute of it. The staff is super friendly and helpful and we loved the overall layout of the resort. We stayed in one of the garden pool villas and it was perfect for the two of us. Although our room was situated toward the front of the resort and near other taller buildings, our pool and bathroom area was still made very private so we didn't feel uncomfortable about the open bathroom layout, even during the day. We loved the room, loved the layout and I liked the little details they included (like providing a beach bag that you could use during your stay, etc). In addition to the fantastic room and great customer service, the beach area and pool were really beautiful and quiet. The bar was great and we had dinner at the restaurant one night and the food was pretty fantastic (especially the desserts). Breakfast every morning featured an omelette station, a variety of Thai & chinese dishes, western baked goods, salads and you could order any one of a number of great items off the menu. It was one of the best breakfast spreads I've had at any hotel. My husband and I also received spa services during our stay and the details (beautiful treatment rooms, excellent staff, post massage tea and cookies) definitely made the spa extra special too. The resort is located about 15 min from the main beach hangout areas, but there is a taxi stand right next to the lobby, so we never found the location inconvenient. I think the only, very minor, complaint we had was that the room electricity shut off when you weren't there (you had to put your key in the slot to turn on everything) so it was difficult to charge electronics since we had limited converters/adaptors. That's really it. Overall, a fantastic place and we could have spent many more days there! Definitely reccomend.

Room Tip: I didn't find it a problem, but you might ask for a room that isn't along the front edge of...

We stayed 3 nights in the garden pool villa. I like the layout and it was just the right size for the two of us. As a previous reviewer mentioned, the bath and toilet are outdoors (though covered from rain) so there may be some mosquitoes. But the hotel has done its best by providing ample mosquito coils and repellent devices, and as well as including repellent spraying during turn down service, given the nature of the tropical environment.

The breakfast, like many mentioned, is the best hotel breakfast we've had. There is a buffet spread as well as an ala carte menu to order from. One can also order a variety of coffee, teas and fruit juices. We were spoiled for choice! We had the Thai BBQ buffet dinner at the Sala Restaurant on Thursday night and the food quality and variety were great too. It also included a Thai dance performance!

The beach area is not very big but nice. The attendants are always around to provide towels, waters etc.

All in all a great experience and a highly recommended hotel!
